Rod Thomas, aka Bright Light Bright Light, has released a video for his Sir Elton John collaboration, ‘Running Back To You’. The track, the third collaboration between the pair, is taken from Rod’s album Choreography which was released last year.
The music video, art directed by Del Marquis (Scissor Sisters) and directed by Santiago Felipe (Björk’s live photographer) and Rod, is a visual treat. Choreographed by award-winning Steven Hoggett (Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, Once), the video powerfully portrays the emotion of the song lyrics using contemporary dance.
Talking about the video with OfficialCharts.com, Rod said: “The song’s about the scene in a mid-to-low budget ’80s film where the strong female lead realises she can’t shake the man she’s fallen for. She gets up, walks out into the rain: her make up runs, her hair and shoulder pads flatten, and she looks a mess, but she’s wearing really fabulous shoes.
“I wanted to make a video where a normal and empty world gets populated by these imposing and weird dream-like things until in the end it felt like being inside a neon snow globe, to give that idea of being trapped inside your own mind and unable to escape a particular thought and feeling. Plus I wanted to do a big group choreo number, and it was the most fun thing in the world.”
‘Running Back To You’ will be available to pre-order as an exclusive EP on January 20. The EP will include a 12 inch version, radio edit and a remix from Vince Clarke, one of Rod’s biggest musical influences. The EP will also feature a new song called ‘Go Long’.
