Every year TIME releases the ‘TIME 100,’ which features the world’s most significant figures – including activists, scientists, artists, and many others. This year, it has been revealed that BTS is nominated to be included in the list.
BTS is nominated along with other significant figures around the world, such as Bill Gates, the Parkland students, Pope Francis, Beyoncé, and many others.
Readers are able to vote who they believe should be part of the TIME 100 here. Voting began on March 28th and will end at midnight ET on April 17th. While the public voting doesn’t determine the final decision on who is featured within the magazine, it plays a critical role in who the TIME editors choose to be on the list.
Two days after the voting poll was opened, BTS lead the poll with 14% of votes. The entire poll results can be seen on TIME’s website. After voting ends on April 17th, the TIME 100 will be announced on April 19th.
Update as of April 19th, 2018:
While the TIME 100 list was announced, it was discovered that BTS did not make the list. Although they led the poll with 15% of votes, the ultimate determining factor of who made the list was made by TIME journalists.
This nomination follows the tremendous amount of love and support that BTS has been receiving in the U.S. since the beginning of the year. From winning iHeartRadio’s ‘Best Boy Band’ and ‘Best Fan Army’ awards, to winning KCA’s ‘Favorite Global Music Star’ award, and finally being featured on Forbes as the “K-Pop Group That Finally Won America Over.”
Congratulations on the nomination, BTS! We hope to see you featured next year on the list!
