V, from popular K-Pop group BTS, has officially been declared as having the most handsome face of 2017. The ranking comes from the Independent Critics List published by TC Candler.
Ever since 1990, TC Candler has been releasing annual lists of the “100 Most Handsome Faces.” According to the competition’s description, TC Candler and the Independent Critics members narrow down the 100 most handsome faces from over 90,000 celebrities. Unlike other beauty rankings, the list is not based on popularity. Instead, the criteria is based on a combination of different factors. Of course, “aesthetic perfection” is one, but the judges also look at the person’s “grace, elegance, originality, daring, passion, class, poise, joy, promise, hope.”
The list is also known for being diverse because it is not country-specific. The 100 men on the list come from 40 different countries. This year’s most handsome face, V, whose real name is Kim Taehyung, is from South Korea. His fellow band members, Jeon Jungkook and Park Jimin, rank at #13 and #64 respectively.
The list also pays tribute to SHINee’s Kim Jonghyun, who just passed away earlier this month. As his picture shows in the video, there is a moment of silence. He comes at #27 on the list. Some fans think the ranking is in reference to his age at the time of his passing.
