After seven long years, three children, one historic Grammy win, and countless headlines, Cardi B is officially stepping back into the spotlight. The Bronx-born rapper has announced her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, set to release on September 19 via Atlantic Records.
The follow-up to her 2018 blockbuster debut Invasion of Privacy—which went quadruple platinum and made her the first solo female rapper to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album—has been eagerly anticipated for years. Cardi B has frequently teased the new project, hinting at delays, near-completions, and shifting timelines. But this time, it’s official: the album cover, release date, and preorder link are all live.
Cardi B revealed the album with a theatrical teaser video posted to her social media on June 23. In the short clip, she appears in a flowing black gown, surrounded by swirling (fake) ravens, as she delivers a powerful voiceover announcing the arrival of her next era. The monologue, delivered with characteristic intensity, sets the tone for transformation and retribution, and hints at the themes that will likely shape the upcoming record:
“Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, life and loss. Seven years I gave them grace, but now, I give them hell. I learned power is not given, it’s taken. I’m shedding feathers and no more tears. I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your tyrant. The time is here. The time is now.”
While the teaser laid the groundwork, the cover art confirmed the vision with striking clarity. The official album artwork features Cardi B draped in a striking blood-red bodysuit and towering platform heels, with a raven perched on her foot as more swirl above. The recurring motifs of black feathers and crows anchor the album’s visual identity, evoking themes of vengeance, reinvention, raw power and ascension. Together, the visuals suggest an artist not simply returning — but re-emerging, unapologetic and elevated, stepping into a darker, more commanding chapter of her career.
Am I the Drama? will feature 23 tracks, including fan favorites like “Up,” the viral smash “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, and her newest single “Outside,” which Cardi premiered at the Cannes Lions Festival last week. The fiery track, produced by Charlie Heat and DJ SwanQo, has already sparked headlines for its sharp lyrics referencing her ex-husband Offset and name-dropping her current partner, NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

While Cardi B has remained musically active in recent years, collaborating with artists like Lizzo, Bruno Mars, Rosalía, and Kanye West—fans have long awaited a full-length follow-up as hype around a second album began as early as 2020’s “WAP,” but a full project never materialized—until now.
In a 2024 Rolling Stone cover story, Cardi B revealed she was aiming for a release that year, still finalizing the intro, a few more songs, and the rollout strategy. “I’m a different person every single day,” she admitted at the time. “I want to make club records, pop records, songs to cry to, songs to yell to.” That emotional spectrum—shaped by motherhood, heartbreak, fame, and the pressure of surpassing her successful debut record, clearly informs her new body of work.
Now 32, Cardi B enters this next era not just as a chart-topping artist, but as a mother of three, a cultural lightning rod, and a woman who, by her own declaration, is done playing nice. As she concludes in her teaser: “I’m not your villain, I’m your karma. I’m not back—I’m beyond.”
Am I the Drama? is now available for preorder and officially drops on September 19. If Cardi’s message is any indication, this isn’t just a comeback—it’s a reckoning.
