New relationships can be exciting, but also scary. You are giddy for what could be, yet also worried it will end before it has reached its full potential. Cate Carter’s punchy Americana piece “Women Always Know” is about having a gnawing gut-feeling your partner is going to leave, but also reminding yourself you will be okay regardless. Her powerful, velvety vocals soaring atop an acoustic guitar echo her deep frustration. She assertively sings the lines, “decide what you want if you love me so, but I know what’s coming, women always know.” With that bold lyric, she encourages herself to stay strong in her convictions. The video continues with that same energy. Though simplistic, just her standing in front of a microphone, it is highly compelling. The close-ups on her face allow us to see her every raw emotion.
The Los Angeles-based artist is a multi-talented force. A singer, songwriter and musician, she crafts intricate music blending pop, Americana, rock and folk. This self-assured single is off of her debut EP Slightly Out Of Reach. The five-track body of work explores relationships, self-empowerment and professional success.
