Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Catie Turner outlines her plan of vengeance against her ex in her new single “Step Mom.” She has disclosed her plans to steal your dad with her idiosyncratic and eccentric new pop anthem, out via Atlantic Records.

“Step Mom” has been a fan favourite song for months, as Catie has been playing the song throughout her tour with Léon, and her fans highly have been desperately waiting for the release.
The track finds her tormenting her ex psychologically in a way that is both vicious, devilish yet catchy as hell. This post-breakup roaring anthem has a distinctive vibe where Catie is overcoming her past wounds and sorrows and moving on to rejoice. Although it still feels recent, she is recuperating, doing well, and dating a new man.
Now hold your hearts because here comes the plot twist. As the vibrant chorus plays, she reveals that the “new man” is none other than the father of her ex-boyfriend. Well, your jaw’s dropped to the floor, hasn’t it? It’s funny, it’s humorous yet the concept of making an ex regret hurting you and breaking up will always resonate with the audience. “Step Mom” conveys a bold, striking pop song which is quite fascinating.

This redefined breakup anthem is as amusing as it is musically impressive. Turner describes herself as an “overthinking, overwhelmed musician with a talent for overcomplicating situations,” yet it’s likely these characteristics are just what makes her such an expressive artist with great narrative, imagery, and storytelling prowess, and this is evident in “Step Mom.”
She took all of her heartbreak from a breakup and turned it into the bops, ballads, and confessions on her 2021 EP, Heartbroken and Milking It, featuring bopping songs like “Therapy,” and apparently her ex is not very appreciative of that. Why? We’re still pondering over that.
