Don’t worry so much about what other people are doing and thinking of you, just kind of do you.
So, as a few of you know we set up the trend #CelebMixAskJamie, this was all for a good cause as I was lucky enough to have a catch up with Jamie Curry just as she had ended her book tour for her new book ‘They Let Me Write A Book!: Jamie’s World’
Me: Hi! I loved your book, I thought I’d just quickly pop that in there.
Jamie: Aw thank you.
Question: What was your favourite part about writing your book?
Answer: Urm, my favourite part…I think it was kind of trying a different way of not comedy, but getting my sense of humour across ‘cos usually I’m kind of video orientated and it was kind of cool to just try something new.
Question: So, what did it feel like when you finally got to actually hold the finished product in your hands?
Answer: It was kind of like weird, I was like, it’s random to have a book about yourself, because a book is something kind of, I don’t know i’ve always kind of seen a book as a real important thing and then I have a book, which is weird. Because obviously I’ve seen pictures of the flat copies, but to see it actually like in real life it was really cool!
Question: What actually made you want to write a book?
Answer: Well originally I was like, no I don’t really want to write a book because like all the YouTubers are doing it, it’s weird; And then Harper Collins was then actually like walking me through all their plans and stuff and how they see it kind of going and all the kind of things we could do. So, I was then like ‘Oh, that’s kinda cool. May as well!’
Question: You talked a lot about your school life in the book, so if you could go back and tell your younger self a piece of advice what would it be?
Answer: Don’t worry so much about what other people are doing and thinking of you, just kind of do you. Because half the people I went to intermediate with actually most of them, I’ve never even seen again so, probably just don’t worry about what other people are thinking.
Question: What’s it like being looked up to by people?
Answer: I don’t know, it kind of feels the same, I don’t feel any pressure or anything obviously. But I think I am more aware of what i’m doing, and some of the decisions I make when I post things online – Because obviously some of my audience are quite impressionable and quite young so I try not to sound like a dick head online!
Question: You also talk about being awkward in social situations, so what’s it like when you’re put in a professional situation? How do you deal with that?
Answer: Interviews are kind of easy because I mean I’m talking about myself and know all the answers, so theres no pressure. Sometimes I do a lot of talks like on stage and they ask me questions and I get a bit flustered and step over my words, but it’s different when I’m in a kind of professional environment, I kind of switch gears from awkward to like ‘C’mon Jamie you have to be serious now’
Question: If you weren’t doing Youtube or what you’re doing now, what do you think you’d actually being doing right now?
Answer: I was actually discussing this with my friend yesterday, and we were like, I don’t know, we couldn’t see myself doing anything else. I’d probably, if I was though, I feel like I’d be at Uni or I’d be playing sport like badminton or soccer or something.
Question: What piece of advice would you give someone starting out on YouTube?
Answer: I would say, just do it, have fun because if you’re not having fun it can how in the videos and just kind of be yourself to a certain extent.
Question: So, how’s the book tour been going?
Answer: Crazy! I just finished yesterday, I had a lot of early mornings, I got up at 5:30 and then had 2 meet and greets, which was I goes tiring. But it was crazy, they’re so like excited! And some of them cry and I don’t know what to do! Yesterday, we we’re at this mall, the line was massive it went all the way around the corner, and I could see all these people as I was approaching but they couldn’t see me and there was all these restaurants and these like older people walking by and they all started screaming as I came around the corner and all of these adults were sort of like ‘who the heck is that’ as I rocked up in like sneakers and casual ass clothes, I didn’t look at all like an important person it was really funny.
Question: Talking about your fans, what is the strangest thing a fan has ever done or said to you?
Answer: A girl yesterday was kind of like ‘Urm hey, can you draw in my tattoo book?’ and I was like ‘what’s a tattoo book?’ and she was like ‘when you draw in it i will get it tattooed on me’ and I didn’t know what to do because I’m a horrible drawer and I really didn’t want her to get that tattoo so I just drew a heart.
Question: Is this the career you’d like to peruse full-time forever?
Answer: Probably not, I’m not really YouTube/Internet inclined I mean I see all the other YouTubers and my friends and stuff, that are in the video kind of thing, and they’re always so good at it and they are real dedicated to it. I just struggle with it, I’m really trying to get into acting. So like I will still be doing videos and stuff, I just think if I get into acting that will cut down a little bit.
Question: What music have you been listening to recently?
Answer: Yeah because my music like, changes all the time, I have a couple of go-to songs all the time. But at the moment I’ve been really listening to the new One Direction, Justin Beieber which is pretty cool, Adele’s new song, the new 1975 song. These are all such cliche mainstream songs, but and Selena Gomez’s new album, I really like it.
Question: You say you’re a bit of a neat freak, so what are your tips on dealing with that?
Answer: Make sure everything has a place, and then if you move it from that place once you’ve done with it put it back in that place, it’s like really really simple. I think the problem is, is that your room gets a little bit messy and then it gets even more messy and then you just can’t be bothered with it and then you never clean it because it’s getting messier and messier. So, have a place for everything and put it back where you came from!
Question: So we got some fan questions as well, whats your favourite food? -@Kyliehemmings64
Answer: That changes too, but probably grilled cheese.
Question: What do you love most about your fans? -@HaukLauren
Answer: How funny and clever they are, and how polite they are.
Question: How long does it usually take to make a video? -@SashaMatsumoto
Answer: It depends, to actually film one it takes probably like half an hour, I don’t know it depends on what I’m talking about and if I get to the point quick enough. Or editing and stuff depends if I break my computer or not, I tend to do that all the time, so that could take 4 hours it could take 5 hours. I’m really slow at editing as well, so most YouTubers are like, ‘it probably takes me 2 hours’ and I’m like ‘yeah it takes me like 10 hours’
Question: If you could invite anyone to a party dead or alive who would you invite? -@littlemiux
Answer: Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony, Justin Bieber. Who else would i invite? I don’t know! I don’t know what people are like when they’re at a party. I don’t like inviting strangers to a party, it’s never good, it’s never a good idea. I’d invite all my friends. Oh! And the One Direction boys.
Question: Do you have a moment in your life you’d like to re-do? -@YourFavLilGirl
Answer: No? Not really, because I feel like it was good enough the first time, to repeat it would be not as good. Like you know when you go on holiday and you go to this beach or whatever that you’ve never been to before and then you’re like, it was real sick, lets go again next year last year was so cool, and then you do it again and it just wasn’t as good as the first time.
Question: Would you rather have the ability to fly or read other peoples minds? -@ohmyjaureguui
Answer: Oh my god! Those are the two things I would really love to be able to do, I feel like reading someones mind would be kind of annoying but it would be very very handy, but I really like to fly, probably read someones mind. And I feel like it would be dangerous and I’d end up dying.
Question: What was it like to write a book? -@HemmingsButtons
Answer: It was hard, and it was a very long process. But it was exciting and also nerve-wracking to kind of, like I had some help while writing it from a girl called Alex Casey and while we were sort of doing it we were nervous to see whether my personality and sense of humour came across. So it was exciting but really really nerve-wracking.
Question: What is it like having such a huge audience? -@stardustlirry
Answer: It’s random because obviously I’m sitting in my apartment now and it’s like, they’re just numbers but then you meet them in real life and it’s like they’re real people – Because most of the time I’m filming it by myself, and then I edit it by myself and then I post it by myself and then it’s not till I see people in real life that I realise it’s like an actual thing.
Question: How are you doing today? -@lishiechloexx
Answer: I’m doing good, I’m just tired, but good.
Question: Who’s your woman celebrity crush? -@Tammy13NY
Answer: Probably Lauren Jauregui.
Question: Have you got any plans of coming to the UK anytime soon? -@emilymax2001
Answer: I don’t, but I really really want to come, it’s one of the places that I want to go but I haven’t been to yet, and I mean I should I have like a following over there, and other YouTubers seem to go over there like all the time. I will see how my book sales go over there and never know I may go over there for a signing or a meet up or something.
