For some, Valentine’s Day is just another day on the calendar. For others, it’s a holiday they’d just like to pretend doesn’t exist at all. For those who believe in love and magic, however, it’s a day to make grand gestures in love and decorate with all things pink, red, and sparkly.
We decided that this year, we’d join the Valentine’s Day festivities with our own CelebMix Valentines. We picked a few of our favorite celebrities, incorporated some cheesy pick-up lines, and decided to fond over how impeccable they are. We hope you enjoy them!
Here are three reasons why Melanie Martinez would make the perfect Valentine this February 14th.
1. She’s Unique
One thing you can’t deny about Melanie is that she isn’t afraid to do her own thing- whether that be through her music, her fashion, or her music videos. She knows what she likes and goes through with it, regardless of what others may think. Her concept album Cry Baby was a bold move, but its one-of-kind theme and aesthetic really paid off. It also takes some guts to dye half of your hair a different colour! And we know it’s almost as cheesy as the pickup line above, but being unapologetically yourself is the most attractive thing you can do.
2. She’s Talented
We were first introduced to Melanie’s insane vocal talent when she was a contestant on The Voice, and she’s only gotten better! She has a unique tone and an impressive range, and always puts her signature twist on whatever she’s performing. It’s clear that she was born to be on stage- and who doesn’t want a Valentine who can serenade you? In addition, Melanie’s creativity and storytelling abilities are always active, especially when she created an entire narrative for her character Cry Baby through her debut album and series of music videos.
3. She Cares
One of the most important qualities to look for in a Valentine is whether or not they’re passionate- about others, about the world, and about what they do. Not only does Melanie always show love to her dedicated supporters, she isn’t afraid to speak up about important issues in society. Above all, it’s evident that Melanie consistently pours her heart and soul into her music. From taking the time she needs to make art that she’s proud of, to insisting on having creative control over her music videos, she loves being completely invested in her music.
