We’re back with day 6 of CelebMix’s Christmas Film Advent!
Today, we’re throwing it back with this 1980s classic, A Christmas Story.
Set in the 1940s, the film tells the story of nine-year old Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley). After seeing a beautiful window display, Ralphie knows exactly what he wants for Christmas, a Red Rider 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. He immediately begins brainstorming ways of convincing his parents to buy him one for Christmas. His mother (Melinda Dillon) was quick to say no, using the movie’s perhaps most popular quote, “you’ll shoot your eye out.”
Narrated by Ralphie’s older self (Jean Shepherd), the movie documents his inner thoughts and daydreams as he quests to get what he wants for Christmas.
This film is riddled with interesting characters such as Ralphie’s father (Darren McGavin), who is quite the grump. A Christmas Story wouldn’t be complete without Ralphie’s kid brother, Randy, and his incessant whining.
There’s never a dull moment in this film, with Ralphie’s daydreams of finally owning a Red Rider rifle, neighborhood bullies, a foul-mouthed father, a leg shaped lamp, a pink bunny suit, and even a tongue stuck to a pole!
A Christmas Story is nostalgia at its finest, and is the perfect movie to get you into the Christmas spirit!
