Under the twinkling Parisian night sky, the Eiffel Tower wasn’t the only thing glowing brightly on Friday evening as Celine Dion graced the stage at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony with a performance that will be remembered for generations to come.

With the City of Lights as her backdrop, Dion made a spellbinding return to the stage, delivering a moving rendition of Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love,” which shimmered as brightly as the iconic landmark itself! In a moment that felt almost dreamlike, the pop queen took to the stage for her first live performance in four years, since 2020.

Donning a stunning Dior couture white gown that seemed to dance with the pouring rain, Dion’s “Hymn to Love” performance was a breathtaking crescendo that echoed over the River Seine and pierced the hearts of the 300,000-strong audience. It was a rare and precious moment that united the crowd in awe and emotion, proving that Dion’s powerful voice and undeniable presence are timeless.

It’s Céline Dion’s world and we are just living in it.

Earlier in the evening, French sports legends Marie-José Pérec and Teddy Riner set the stage ablaze by lighting the Olympic cauldron, igniting the ceremony with patriotic fervour. As the cauldron’s glow bathed the city, Dion took the stage and delivered a performance nothing short of a show-stopper. Her voice soared through the air as a stunning tribute to the resilience and unity epitomizing the Olympic spirit — a stirring reminder of her incredible talent and the unwavering hope she embodies.

The four-hour-long opening ceremony, a sprawling tribute to French culture and global artistry, stretched along six kilometres of the River Seine, brimming with spectacular performances and starry athletic highlights. But it was Dion’s long-awaited comeback that truly stole the spotlight. The rumours of her appearance swirled for days, and fans were on the edge of their seats until the very last minute, as her appearance was confirmed just days before the event, adding an extra layer of magic to the already mesmerizing event.

The ceremony wasn’t just about Celine Dion, though. The night was also graced by Lady Gaga’s lively opener “Mon truc en plumes,” followed by French pop sensation Aya Nakamura wowing the crowd with her hits “Pookie” and “Djadja”. Mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel delivered a patriotic punch with “The Marseillaise” from the Grand Palais rooftop, and Juliette Armanet added a poignant touch with “Imagine”.

Celine Dion’s Paris Olympics performance was more than just a concert—it was a magical testament to her enduring talent and indomitable spirit, adding an inspiring chapter in her storied career. Her voice, soaring above the Parisian skyline, served as a powerful reminder of music’s ability to inspire and unite, reaffirming her place as one of the greatest performers of our time.
