After teasing fans on social media, Cheat Codes and Little Mix have finally unveiled their music video for ‘Only You’, and it’s a truly beautiful same sex love story with an unexpected twist.
Earlier this week, both bands took to Twitter to unveil #CheatTheCodes which involved the fans working out Morse Code in order to put together a message. Once all letters were uncovered, the message spelt out ‘No One Else’ and led fans to a teaser of the visual.
At midnight today (July 13), the highly anticipated music video was unveiled in full. Directed by Frank Borin, the visual focuses on a blossoming relationship between two girls. The visual begins with a red haired girl getting ready for a party. Feeling rather left out, she sits on her own sipping a drink until a mysterious blonde haired girl (played by US actress Peyton List) makes her entrance and invites her to dance.
We then see the girls dancing, playing beer pong and sitting by the pool, all the while falling more for each other. However, when the blonde girl is pushed into the pool, the visual throws in a humongous plot twist – she’s actually a mermaid. As the red head jumps in to the pool to save her, the two share a tender kiss however, there’s no happy ending as the mermaid must return to the sea where she belongs.
Despite the heartbreaking twist, we love that Little Mix and Cheat Codes chose to depict a same sex romance in the ‘Only You’ music video. It’s no secret that Little Mix are loyal allies of the LGBTQ+ community, however, representing the community through their music video is an incredible step which will be appreciated by their fans across the globe.
