We’re just a few days away from new music from Cheryl and we couldn’t be more excited for her return.

As we previously reported, the ‘Call My Name’ singer will be releasing her new single ‘Love Made Me Do It’ this Friday, and the promo trail has well and truly begun. Earlier today, it was revealed that Cheryl is the latest guest on singer-songwriter Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast.

Teasing the podcast with a hilarious trailer, we see a hungry Cheryl phoning Jessie and asking her mum Lennie if she can cook her up a brisket and a key lime pie. Jessie then reveals that Cheryl is in fact this week’s guest on her podcast.

During the podcast, Cheryl spoke to Jessie and Lennie about her new single, writing the song with her friend and former Girls Aloud band member Nicola Roberts, being a new mum and much more.

Speaking about her return to music, Cheryl revealed that she is delighted to be back and isn’t feeling any pressure. “I’m excited… I’m comfortable and confident in the music but I’m just happy to be doing it again,” she said. “I’m not nervous about it, I don’t feel pressure, I just feel excited.”

‘Love Made Me Do It’ will be unveiled to the world on Friday, and Cheryl co-wrote the song with Nicola Roberts. With a long friendship between the two, she shared that the songwriting process was natural and fun. “We had the best time and it was so natural and organic and real because we’ve got a 16 year long friendship,” Cheryl said. “Like she knows me inside out, she can speak for me sometimes. Her melodies are always like first take wonders. It’s just an organic relationship.”

In terms of her songwriting process in general, Cheryl said that it’s very much a matter of sharing experiences with others on a particular subject. “We all chat (the writers/producers of the album), we all talk about our different experiences, we might talk about one subject and all the different experiences we have or we share within that subject and then it comes out that way but I wasn’t sat writing a love poem to anyone or about anybody.”

It’s been four years since Cheryl released her last album, Only Human, and after a number of years in the industry previously, the songstress acknowledged that she needed to slow down, take a break and take the time to look at where she was creatively. “I needed it for my sanity. I honestly didn’t know how much I needed it (to slow down) until I did it… I’d just had enough… I wasn’t inspired, I was jaded,” she said. “It felt like a negative space I was living in and then you get to the point where it’s like what is the point, I could be doing something I hate doing and feel the same way…so why am I like putting myself through this? I like a balance…I like peace and harmony in my life.”

During her break, it’s safe to say that Cheryl’s life changed significantly as she became a mum, giving birth to her son Bear back in 2017. Speaking about her son, Cheryl said: “I didn’t leave his side and I refused to get help until he was 16 months… It didn’t feel natural to me, I know a lot of people don’t have that choice, they have to go back to work. So I felt like I had a luxury of time being able to have a year with my son.”

Now, Cheryl is back and stronger than ever. With TV performances to come on the X Factor and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, in addition to live performances at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball and Hits Radio Live Manchester, we’re going to be hearing a lot more from the songstress and we couldn’t be more ready.
