Cheryl Fernandez-Versini announced in January of this year, that she would be setting up the Cheryl’s Trust charity to help young people living in the North East.
Since then the singer has been working tirelessly to raise the £2m needed to open her first youth centre for disadvantaged and unemployed young people in need of some help and to get their lives on track.
The I Don’t Care hitmaker held a ICAP Charity day to raise money for her charity, where Simon Cowell joined in with answering the phones along with other big names such as Little Mix, Cheryl has also donated £100k from the proceeds of her new perfume StormFlower EDT to her trust, and also held a competition via Prizeo where fans were allowed to donate and be entered into a prize draw to meet the X Factor judge and also spend the day shopping with her, you could also donate more money to get exclusive prizes.
The star will be announcing more fundraising plans sometime this year.
Cheryl’s Trust is in partnership with the Princes Trust, a charity close to Cheryl’s heart, and speaking when the Geordie beauty announced her plans the singer said “I’m proud of where I grew up but I’m only too aware of the challenges that young people face. Opportunities often seem pretty limited and I saw so many friends who had loads of potential fall into a life of alcohol, drugs and crime. Too many young people are wasting their lives away because they feel they have no one to turn to.“My life could have turned out very differently… I know how lucky I am. That’s why I am raising money to open the new Centre in Newcastle. I want to give back and help young people who feel like they’ll never achieve anything reach their dreams and live a happy life.”
The youth centre will help over 4,000 vulnerable youngsters each year, and help them realize their potential.
The Only Human singer hopes to open centre’s all across the UK once she has the first North East centre up and running.
