Clay Adler, who initially rose to fame in 2007 on MTV’s Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County died last month at the age of 27.
On March 25, the former television star took a trip to the desert with friends to go shooting. In the midst of firing, Adler turned the gun on himself and was struck in the head by a single bullet. He passed away the following day.
It was reported that neither drugs or alcohol were found in Adler’s system during the time of his death; however, he may have battled with mental illness in the past.
“We are saddened by the news of Clay Adler’s passing,” MTV said in an official statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.”
In addition to his appearance on the network, Adler was also part of TV movie The Fish Tank, as well as an episode of ABC Family’s dramedy Make It or Break It.
Our deepest condolences are with Clay’s loved ones.
