Award winning comedian and actress Victoria Wood has sadly passed away from cancer at the age of 62.

In a statement earlier today, her publicist Neil Reading said: “Victoria Wood has sadly passed away, after a short but brave battle with cancer. The multi Bafta award-winning writer, director, actor and comedian died peacefully at her north London home with family this morning. She was 62. The family ask for privacy at this very sad time.”

Wood began her incredible career over 40 years ago and was made famous after winning ATV’s New Faces talent show. She was probably best known for starring in and writing the award winning comedy Dinnerladies. Wood also won several BAFTA’s, including two for her one-off ITV drama Housewife, 49.

Among her many great achievements, she was made an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1997 and later a CBE in 2008.

Famous faces have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to the comedy legend, having been an inspiration to many throughout the years.
