Comic Relief has topped £1 billion in donations over the last thirty years.
Last night’s Red Nose Day, which featured sketches from The Vicar of Dibley, Little Britain and Mr Bean, helped push the charity over the billion mark after raising an impressive £78million.
Richard Curtis, who co-founded Comic Relief with Lenny Henry in 1985, said: “This is a very strange moment for me. When a bunch of comedians got together all those years ago we dreamed of raising a million or two, and never imagined the generosity that would be shown by the British public for so many years.”
