When the news of Cory Monteith’s untimely passing broke four years ago, the world was in a state of shock. Dealing with a loss as tragic as Cory’s death is never easy, but when you remember his kind soul it becomes a little easier.

During his life, Cory dedicated his time to help others. After his death, everyone who loved and admired him continued to carry on his legacy in a way that would make him the proudest man in the world. In honour of what would have been Cory Monteith’s 35th birthday, his mother Ann McGregor started an annual fundraiser titled “Cory Monteith Summer Music Camp Challenge” in collaboration with Saint James Music Academy in Downtown Eastside Vancouver, Canada.

This year, the Cory Monteith Summer Music Camp Challenge raised $4236, making it possible to send 10 children to summer camp. “I am grateful for those that carry Cory in their hearts and truly know what he stood for. This is everything a mother could ask for,” Cory’s mother, Ann, says in response to this incredible achievement. “Thank you for putting “Cory” smiles on little faces.”

It would be easy to spend today in sadness, but remembering Cory Monteith should make you happy, even if it’s hard. His life wasn’t the easy, care-free life we all dream of – he had struggles. A lot of them. However, he always made sure that the people around him were happy, that every single one of his fans knew how much they meant to him. He always showed respect, kindness and tolerance to everyone he met, no matter who they were.

When we remember Cory today, we should celebrate his life. Honour Cory in a way that would make him proud; help someone, smile at a stranger, be kind.

Wherever you are, we hope that you’re safe and happy. We hope we’re continuing to make you proud. Thank you for everything – we love you.
