Dalton Rapattoni in Top 6 on American Idol

A highlight of American Idol has always been watching every day people go from the audition stages to the top two performers and finally to the winner of the television show. It was announced last year that this would be the final year of reality talent search TV show, American Idol. Even though this is the last year, talented singers have been rising to the top in the last few weeks; specifically Dalton Rapattoni. Even from the auditions to Hollywood Week, Dalton was one to watch.

From the beginning, Dalton had a strong punk rock vibe and was able to put his own twist on classic pop songs. One of the highlights so far has been his rendition of the Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah.”

Tonight they revealed the top 6, but leading up to it, Dalton sang in the duets round with fellow contestant, MacKenzie Bourg. They sang a Backstreet Boys favorite, “I Want It That Way” with MacKenzie on guitar and the American Idol band rounding out the sound. Even though it was popular with the audience, the judges were not fond of the song choice. Keith Urban said he looked forward to their solo round.

In the solo round, Dalton took on “Eleanor Rigby” by The Beatles and he did not disappoint. Keith Urban pointed out the darker undertone of the song and how Dalton chose to highlight it in his performance.  It shows true musicianship and artistic ability when contestants can take an older song and turn it into something that sounds current and also has the contestant’s own flair. Dalton was able to take a classic song, one that many people know and he was able to make it his own. He is definitely one to watch in the final weeks of the show.

We don’t know what the next few weeks have in store, but if you are watching American Idol this year, remember to vote because you never know who will go home next. And you don’t want your favorite to go home in the final weeks. If Dalton is your favorite, remember to vote!
