Left of center pop New York City based artist D’Arcy has just released a new emotional single. Called “when i can’t sleep…”, the song follows her unique electro pop track “baby i love you <3” shared earlier this year.
With “when i can’t sleep…”, D’Arcy pens an early morning lullaby full of slow-burning intoxicating rhythms and dreamy vocals. The song was written when the artist was in bed and couldn’t sleep. She was struck with inspiration and she quickly began to record a demo whispering the vocals so she didn’t wake anyone up. The result is a sweet and tender love song with a stillness and tranquility inspired by the early morning stillness. Lyrics including, “I know you’re sleeping now / I have something to say / It’s 5am i’m up again / Seems like we’re staying turns staying awake / When i see you i see an angel landed on the ground / Somehow chosen to stay / I will love you through it all,” show a deep devotion and appreciation for her loved one. Sonically, the track is a contemplative reviere complete with echoing melodies, colorful synths and downtempo beats.
D’Arcy released her debut album in 2021 and since then has built a dedicated fanbase intrigued by her sonic melting pot. Known as a prolific performer, the artist has played over 80 shows and has supported well known bands including She Wants Revenge and Lee DeWyze. “when i can’t sleep…” is just another powerful release in her ever evolving musical catalogue.
