UK singer Cheryl shot to fame back in 2002 after she took part in the singing contest Popstars The Rivals where she won a place in the group Girls Aloud. During her decade with the band, Cheryl and the other girls became the most successful girl group of the 21st Century.
During Girls Aloud’s hiatus between 2009 and 2013, Cheryl launched a hugely successful solo career one year after landing a judging role on The X Factor. Between 2009 and 2015, Cheryl’s solo music sold millions of copies and also saw her score a record breaking 5 number 1 singles.
The Geordie babe is also the face of L’Oreal.
Her albums ‘3 Words‘, ‘Messy Little Raindrops‘, ‘A Million Lights‘ and ‘Only Human‘, along with her singles ‘Fight For This Love‘, ‘3 Words‘. ‘Parachute‘, ‘Promise This‘, ‘The Flood‘, ‘Call My Name‘, ‘Under The Sun‘, ‘Crazy Stupid Love‘, and ‘I Don’t Care‘, have sold over 10 million copies combined making her one of the most successful female artists of the 21st Century.
She is due to release a new album in late 2017.
During her successful career, Cheryl has built up an extremely close bond with her fans who she calls her ‘Soldiers’, they have been with her through thick and thin and supported her through divorces, sickness, and so much more.
We wanted to find out everything about what it takes to run a fan account for such a big name so we have had a chat with the owner of @Strictly_Cheryl.
Can you explain how and when you first become a fan of Cheryl?
I became a fan of Cheryl back in 2002 when she auditioned for Popstars The Rivals and sang ‘Have You Ever‘ by S Club 7. I looked up to her instantly, she had an incredible talent and was so naturally beautiful
Why are you a fan of Cheryl?
I am a fan of Cheryl because I can relate to her attitude, her music and she is so similar to me. She inspires me to be a better person as well as picking me up when I’m down with her music and quotes.
What made you want to run a fan account for Cheryl?
Because I could share my thoughts on Cheryl, my favourite pictures, and new music to everybody else who loves Cheryl. I love connecting with Soldiers and showing the world how I support Cheryl .
Roughly how much time do you spend running your account?
As and when I have news I try to post to Instagram once a day Twitter is more steady as I don’t have most of my Instagram followers on here so I just retweet and like other posts. I do interact but Instagram is my favourite.
Do you have anyone who runs the account for you if for some reason you are away?
No if I am away I plan my posts for the time I’m away and just quickly post them when I have a minute. I would never trust anybody with my accounts because so much work time and effort has gone into it over the years I could never risk it .
How many followers do you currently have and do they talk to you and ask you things?
I currently have 1.2k followers most of them like and retweet daily they also come to me for news or wanting to find a certain picture as my knowledge is very good on Cheryl. I’m more like a source but a good reliable one.
Would you say you have met any friends online through your account?
I talk to Cheryl fans we are all one big Soldier family but I wouldn’t say I call them best friends and have met them but they are lovely to speak to after a hard day .
Do you prefer to just write updates or post pictures on you account?
I like to post a mixture of different posts put people react more to photos as it’s eye catching to followers .
Has Cheryl ever noticed your account? If yes how did it feel?
No she hasn’t but she has a large fan base and a very busy life so I respect that.
What is your favourite Cheryl song?
That is very tough as every song has different meanings to me so I’ll say ‘Promise This’ because for me that song told us she was back and she was well after she almost died of Malaria in 2010, so that song is like a reminder that she is precious and we should never take her for granted.
What is your favourite thing about Cheryl?
The fact that no matter what is thrown at her she always bounces back and comes back bigger and better and shows people that she is made of steel. That woman is my strength
If you could say one thing to Cheryl what would it be?
If I could say one thing to Cheryl it would be thank you because her music over the years from Girls Aloud to solo has helped me through the hardest times of my life; losing my best friend through suicide was tough and just listening to her music got me through it each step of the way.
Thank you so much to @Strictly_Cheryl for taking the time to answer our questions.
