Today is a very special day for me… I'm officially celebrating 6 years of sobriety!! I'm so thankful to my family, friends and @castcenters for being a part of this journey. A huge part of my recovery was learning to love myself and to give back to others.

The ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ singer has previously opened up about her battles with an eating disorder, self-harming, and substance abuse. After the release of her inspiring documentary Simply Complicated, Lovato told Billboard: “Sometimes it’s a struggle, and sometimes I still deal with issues that I have suffered from in the past. It’s a challenge to maintain recovery.”

Fans and friends have congratulated the star on the great achievement. Ellen Degeneres tweeted: “I love you and am so proud of you,” while a brave fan wrote: “So proud of you. Your recovery inspired me to get clean. It will be 5 years April 1st.”

Lovato’s openness and honesty about her struggles continue to inspire millions of people worldwide and we couldn’t be more of her taking care of herself and her health.

Congratulations on six years of sobriety, Demi!
