Every so often, an artist comes along and captures you with their authentic, heartfelt songs and emotional rawness. Singer-songwriter Marga Lane is one of those artists.
After graduating from the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston, Marga made the move to Los Angeles to further purse a career as a professional recording artist and songwriter.
Since last year, she has been busy compiling her most ambitious and personal project to date, a five-track story of love and loss called Undressed.
‘Thinking About You’, the EP’s opening track, is a celebration of love in its truest form – a new relationship and the hope and bliss that accompanies it. The track begins with upbeat jazz guitar and features Motown inspired vocals from Marga. There are no big, brash sounds here, just a dose of chilled out soul, fairly reminiscent of Corinne Bailey Rae’s music. There is no doubt that Marga will draw you in instantly with this stripped back song.
This track demonstrates the power of a simplistic song, which stands out in a world dominated by overly produced music. It also sets the tone for the rest of Undressed. Produced by fellow Berklee alumni Matt Bobb, we can expect more raw acoustic guitar, soulfully layered vocals and distinctive melodies on Marga’s EP.
Speaking of her music, Marga said: “I write a lot of love songs and love is synonymous with belief. I would hope my music inspires people to have a belief in the power of love. Whether it’s love for yourself or love for another. You can believe that you are meant to be with a certain person or believe that you can overcome circumstances because you love yourself enough to.”
Marga has found some success touring throughout the US, including performing at fashion weeks and singing the National Anthem at over 10 NBA and MLB games. The singer has also garnered support from numerous recording stars and industry veterans, including Lance Bass who featured her on his SiriusXM radio show ‘Dirty Pop’.
With her unique brand of simplistic yet personal music, we have no doubt that the future holds many exciting things for Marga Lane. We look forward to following her musical journey, including the release of Undressed, which is set to be unveiled worldwide on December 2.
