Olivia Nelson is a name you’re going to be hearing a lot more from this year.
After making a substantial breakthrough as the vocalist on Soulection producer Jarreau Vandal’s Someone That You Love, which currently has over 6 million streams, Olivia released her debut single ‘Cleopatra’ last year. She has since garnered support from the likes of Wonderland, Complex, and Clash, without forgetting tastemaker approval from BBC.
Now, Olivia is showcasing her talent once more with her latest single ‘Smother Me’. Premiered by BBC Radio 1Xtra’s DJ Target, ‘Smother Me’ showcases Olivia’s slick vocals over a soulful vibe. The track is also armed with passionate lyrics which prove that the powerhouse vocalist is also an incredible songwriter.
Speaking about ‘Smother Me’, Olivia describes the lyrics as “experiencing infatuation and falling in love for the first time. Feeling like the wind could carry you away in one sweep, like nothing else matters. Like you’re weightless and everything in the world is suddenly brighter. I wrote this from an honest place and I wanted the music to reflect the powerfulness of that feeling. Even though the feeling of love is light, its also heavy at the same time because your words and actions carry so much weight.”

‘Smother Me’ is Olivia’s first offering of the year and comes ahead of her debut EP, which is due for release in the summer.
