After steadily climbing the charts for a number of weeks, Dua Lipa has finally managed to top the UK chart with ‘New Rules’.

Not only is this the songstress’ first UK number one, but she is the first female solo artist to hit the top spot since Adele’s ‘Hello’ in October 2015. Speaking about the achievement, Dua told OfficialCharts.com: “Thank you so much for supporting ‘New Rules’ – we are officially Number 1! Thank you for sharing it with all your friends, for streaming it, for downloading it. I love you, this means a lot to me.”

Phil Christie, President, Warner Bros. Records UK, added: “Dua’s talent has never been in any doubt.  A number one single at this stage in the campaign is a hugely significant milestone on the road to her becoming a global pop star. It’s the result of three years of hard work and creativity from Dua, Ben and the team at Tap Management, and the whole of WB Records.”

‘New Rules’ replaces Calvin Harris, Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean’s ‘Feels’ at number one. During the midweek charts, Dua faced competition from fellow female artist Pink, however, her comeback single ‘What About Us’ settled at number five.

The success of ‘New Rules’ has been helped significantly by the release of its iconic music video. It has garnered over 108 million views since its release last month.

Here at CelebMix, we’re delighted to see Dua Lipa finally get the recognition she deserves. After creating huge waves on the charts with previous hits including ‘Be The One’, ‘Hotter Than Hell’, ‘No Lie’ and ‘Scared To Be Lonely’, it’s an incredible feat for her to finally reach the top spot.

Dua will head out on a UK and European tour in October in support of her self-titled debut album which was released in June.

Congratulations to Dua Lipa for breaking the female drought and claiming this week’s UK number one! Are you loving ‘New Rules’? Let us know on Twitter @CelebMix
