Both Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran were at Radio 1’s London studios this week, with Katy promoting her new single Chained to the Rhythm and Ed performing in Radio 1’s renowned Live Lounge.
While Katy recorded her interview with Breakfast Show host, Nick Grimshaw, Ed passed the studio window. In true Katy Perry humour, she called out to him: “Oh babes! Hi, babes! Thanks for keeping me off the No.1 spot, thanks!”
Not taking it too seriously, Ed laughed before entering the studio to sit down for an impromptu chat with Katy and Grimmy.
The two stars then shared stories of their first meeting, their Brits performances and how they once bonded over both losing out on Grammy awards.
Grimmy also mentioned Ed’s reputation for enjoying a Brits after-party, describing his notorious drunken pictures as “iconic”. It seems the world will never let Ed live that night down.
Even Katy Perry said she had seen the memes featuring a worse-for-wear Ed Sheeran being dragged into a taxi. According to Grimmy, “they are some of my favourite pictures that have ever been taken in the history of music.”
At the end of the interview, Ed apologised for crashing Katy’s chat with Grimmy. However, it’s safe to say the internet is pretty happy that Ed turned up.
The video amassed over 460,000 views in two days and is trending at No.14 on YouTube (although Ed’s Brits performance is currently No.1). You can watch the full chat here:
Ed Sheeran’s amazing Brits performance of Castle on the Hill and Shape of You featured a surprise appearance from Grime star Stormzy. The collaboration quickly became the most memorable part of the evening, reaching almost four million views in 24 hours.
Katy Perry also took to the Brits stage with a rendition of her new single, Chained to the Rhythm. Katy was joined on stage by Skip Marley and two puppet skeletons, rumoured to represent Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May.
