From a record-breaking album to headlining Glastonbury next weekend, 2017 is most definitely Ed Sheeran’s year. However, just when we thought that Ed had achieved pretty much everything, tonight, the ‘Shape of You’ star has reached another milestone in his career.
It has been announced that Ed has been awarded with an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. He has been recognised by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to music and charity and will accept his award in Buckingham Palace later this year. He will be joined by songstress Emeli Sandé who also receives an MBE for her services to music.
Other notable recipients within the entertainment industry include comedian Billy Connolly who will receive a knighthood for services to entertainment and charity. Actresses Julie Walters and June Whitfield have been made dames.
Legendary musician Sir Paul McCartney and Harry Potter author JK Rowling have been made companions of honour, whilst comedian and Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams will receive an OBE for his services to charity and the arts.
Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients. The full Queen’s Birthday Honours List is available here.
