You probably remember our favourite red-head showing off his new tattoo – a massive lion’s head on his chest – via instagram a couple of weeks ago. The amount of reactions this provoked was almost as huge as the tattoo itself, but Ed didn’t mind, stating on Twitter that it’s not his first weird tattoo and it won’t be the last, and that he likes all of them.
Needless to say we were a tiny bit surprised when Ed shared a pic of a lionless chest beneath his beautiful ginger beard on Instagram yesterday, captioned “was only joking about the lion”. Some of his followers were happy, some were sad, some were mainly very surprised (@reckllessabandon: “I THOUGHT UT WAS REALH WHIT”). And of course, since Ed is known for enjoying a bit of trolling, some were suspicious (@___hosanna: “that doesn’t even look like him – and what’s with the skin?”).
The chaos and sheer panic that followed threatened to divide the Ed Sheeran fandom forever (okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration), but anyway, Ed decided to clear things up after a couple of hours.
He did so by posting yet another picture on Instagram, this one captured “only joking, covered it up for a TV show didn’t I”, which led to another round of hilarious reactions, the most relatable coming from @olivia123martin: “I love you too much to hate you”. Same girl, same.
This thrilling saga however leaves us with a couple of questions. For which show did Ed have to cover up his feline friend? What will be his next tattoo and will it ever get the same publicity as the lion? And why does Ed enjoy trolling his own fans this much?
