Earlier this month, Emma Watson had declared her plans to take a break from acting to focus on Feminism. Just few days after her declaration, we can see HeForShe ambassador at work.
On Wednesday, during a sit-down with feminist icon Gloria Steinem, Watson revealed that she uses the adult subscription site OMGYes, a $29 website dedicated to ‘helping women and their partners understand female sexuality’. She said,
“A friend told me about this website called OMGYes, which is dedicated to female sexuality. I wish it had been around longer. Definitely check it out. It’s an expensive subscription but it’s worth it.”
The news was reported by Mic.
OMGYes aims at improving its users’ sex lives. It offers features like “touchable simulation” that lets subscribers test the knowledge they’ve acquired from the site on an image before trying it in real on their partners. As OMGYes cofounder Rob Perkins told Mic previously,
“the site provides practical applications for existing scientific research on human sexuality, essentially providing a user manual for the female orgasm. ”
Also, according to OMGYes co-founder Lydia Daniller,
“We’re experiencing something of a hangover from our previous generation, where it’s still hard for people to see women as sexual beings on their own, It’s fairly new that women are seen as having their own desires.”
Recognizing Female Sexuality and their desires is an important aspect of the concept of gender equality. As evident from past centuries, their had been several attempts to supress female sexuality by uphoding the ideas of chastity and innocence and relating them to woman’s body. Even today, orgasm is seen as some mysterious phenomena and contributes into the series of double standards present in society that attempts to hold its women back.
Well done Emma Watson! She has set out a discourse on an important topic for discussion and we hope that she continues to do the same.
