Emmy Nominations Revealed: Game Of Thrones Dominates

That time of year has swung around again and the nomination list for the Emmys has been revealed. For the full list click here, but if you just want a quick round up you’ve come to the right place. So surprise surprise Game of Thrones has dominated the nominations, how many awards have they been nominated for? just a casual 24, no biggie.

While GOT may not be a surprise, Empire’s nomination count most definitely is. The popular show that took the world by storm earlier this year was sure to be a hit at the Emmys, or so we thought. In actuality the show has been nominated for a mere three awards, yes three, that’s it. Poor Empire. Another show that has garnered an underwhelming amount of noms is Orphan Black, with the grand total of one nomination, but on the plus side at least Tatiana Maslany has finally got some recognition for the amazing job she does playing six, yes six characters in the hit show.

Orange is the new Black has knocked up a cheeky four nominations, which is good, but they’ve been moved from comedy to drama, which is very odd. A few more shows that have done pretty well for themselves is American Horror show: Freak Show (Amazing series, just saying) racking up 19 nominations in total, and the reliable House of Cards garnering an impressive 11.

Online shows are really making an impact this year as well. OITNB and HOC as expected have drawn in a few nominations, but newcomers Daredevil  (three nominations) and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (seven nominations) along with a few others have helped push Netflix’s overall tally up to 34. Amazon have got in the action as well with the amazing Transparent brining in 11 nominations.

Consistently brilliant shows such as Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire received 11 and 10 nominations respectively. Doing it for the Brits, Downton Abbey have received a respectable 8 nominations. We’ll have to wait till September 20th to see who will win, what are your thoughts?
