Carolynne is the latest British singer to take the country music genre by storm. Back in 2012 she got to the live shows of the X Factor where she was mentored by Take That’s Gary Barlow. She was the first ever country singer to progress to the live shows of the ITV talent show.
Now, after several years of going back and forth between Nashville and honing her performing and writing skills, Carolynne is back with her self-penned debut EP ‘Coming Back To Me’. The five track collection follows the release of her two previous singles ‘Take The Keys‘, and ‘I Love You But Shut Up‘.
The EP features a brilliant cover of the Supremes’ hit release ‘Stop In The Name Of Love’ which the Yorkshire based singer covered in honour of her Nan: “My Nannie June loved the version I did on Terry Wogan’s show. My Nannie introduced me to country music, so this was for her” explains Carolynne. The rising star manages to put an authentic country spin on the iconic song and her vocals really do sound amazing.
The EP is a collection of Shania Twain inspired songs with fun, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. It’s flirty and pure country/pop. And if the 36-year-old continues with this style of music then she could very well become Britain’s answer to the Canadian songstress.
The most Twain influenced track is the bouncy ‘Cupid Must Have Been High’ the fun lyrics are very much inspired by the most successful female in country music.
The standout song is ‘Real Man’ which features quirky lyrics about Christian Grey and Justin Timberlake. While ‘Let Me Unlove You’ shows a softer more vulnerable side to the country star.
The title song is a beautiful stripped back number that allows Carolynne’s vocals to be really exposed and showcases her raw talent.
Carolynne’s vocals are strong, clear, raw and authentic. ‘Coming Back To Me’ has hit written all over it and it will no doubt be a huge success on the UK Country Music Chart when it’s released next month.
