Melbourne producer ALIUS has teamed up with Swedish singer/songwriter Rasmus Hagen and Zay to release a new pop-electro tune called “Fight For You.” After much success with his previous single “Caught Up,” averaging about three million streams thus far, ALIUS plans to continue the success with this new single focused on the internal struggle of facing one’s demons. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, ALIUS opened up about the new single, musical inspirations and more.
What can you tell us about the new single “Fight For You” and it’s meaning?
“Fight For You” is about self reflection of an older version of me with struggle that I went through. Lyrically, it’s very vulnerable which speaks truth that can be quite confronting.
How was it to work with Rasmus Hagen and Zay on this track?
I have worked with Rasmus many times and it’s always a pleasure as we have great chemistry and the flow [of the song we make] is amazing and we smash it out very quickly. I didn’t get to meet with Zay. Zay was sent the finished track and got to sing verse 2 and she added some beautiful harmonies and ad libs.
What makes this single different from other songs you have released in the past?
This single leans to a singer / songwriter vibe, with an element of country guitar in the pre-hook section. It still stays true my sound just infused and develops to something fresh.
Who or what are your musical inspirations?
My inspirations are the experiences I go through in my life [in the] past, present and future. Everything that I put into my music is real, honest and true of who I am and what I have been through.
If you could work with anyone this year, who would it be and why?
I would love to work with Sarah Aarons and Ryan Tedder. They are exceptional songwriters and Ryan [is] an amazing producer.
Your last single “Caught Up” was extremely successful! How was it to receive such positive feedback on that track?
Absolutely amazing. It was picked up, heard and loved by the public worldwide and radio. I actually cried when I first heard it on radio.
What is your favorite part about making music? Where do you feel most at home?
My favourite part is top lining, lyrics and producing. Home to me is in the studio and that’s where the magic is made.
What are your goals for 2019?
More and more music. Continuing to develop my sound and bring something fresh to ears. Would like to get an album out! Plus I look forward to doing shows!
If you could switch places with another musician, producer or artist, who would it be and why?
Ryan Tedder. I would love to be in the presence of all the great acts that he has worked with and also be around some of the most influential people in the industry.
What can fans look forward to in the near or distant future?
More great singles that they connect to, big collaborations and evolution on new sounds!
