Corbette Jackson is a fast rising country music influenced singer/songwriter who is currently on a nationwide radio tour supporting his new single ‘Open Door‘. The hit track has recently broke the Top 30 on the AC Radio Chart and Corbette is also the flagship artist for Channel Greatness, a global creative collaborative that spans from the USA to Asia.
Here we speak exclusively to Corbette Jackson about his new single, country music, future plans, and much, much more;
Growing up who inspired your love of music?
My biological father’s side of the family is somewhat musical. Growing up, I had two cousins that played music and I would go to their shows when I could. An uncle of mine put a ton of music from the 70s and 80s on my MP3 player when I was in middle school, which was pretty awesome. I was always naturally drawn to those eras of music at the time. As far as someone inspiring my love for music, I’m not sure if anyone in particular has done that for me. As corny as it sound, I would have to say that the music itself and the artists, along with the experiences that I’ve had, have inspired me more than anything.
When did you start getting into Country?
My grandmother on my father’s side introduced me to a lot of country music that I grew to appreciate. I stayed with her a lot when I was younger and we would listen to artists like Ray Price, Patsy Cline, Alan Jackson, and Merle Haggard. Also, one of my best friends in high school, JR, and I would burn each other CDs and he would put a lot of old school country that I hadn’t heard before on there and it really stuck with me.
How excited are you by the response to your new single ‘Open Door’?
It’s always rewarding to hear that people are pumped up about the new material. It’s even better when I’m able to see the response. To actually see the listeners excited and engaged and feeling the music. It inspires me. I’m really looking forward to releasing the new single I just recorded titled ‘Hometown Nights’. It’s very much instrumentally influenced by the country songs that I listened to and had a profound connection with while growing up in Newnan.
Country music is on the rise in the UK do you have any plans to perform live here?
Wherever there is an opportunity for us to play to people that are willing to listen to us, we’ll be there. I would absolutely love to go play some music in the UK. Hopefully we’ll be headed over there sometime in 2018.
Which UK acts are you currently listening to?
I listen to tons of the classic bands and artists from the UK, but as far as a few current acts that I like I’ll say Ben Howard, Paolo Nutini, James Blake, Dua Lipa, The 1975, The Kooks, and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would you choose?
Miranda Lambert or Khalid
Do you plan on releasing an album soon?
Hopefully sometime in 2018. We plan on releasing the new single “Hometown Nights” at the beginning of 2018.
When you’re not performing or recording what do you spend your time doing?
I enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors in nature. I enjoy working out and reading as well.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I really like to live in the present, but if I was to look ahead, I’d say I’d love to be keeping busy playing music that has a profound impact on the world.
