Earlier this year Brazillian dance music star FTampa joined forces with Canadian star Maggie Szabo to release dance-pop track One Last Time. Having performed at shows and festivals worldwide including Tomorrowland, Burning Man and Lollapalooza there was plenty to talk about when we had a chance to have a chat with him.
Hi FTampa, can you describe yourself in five words?
Fun, a workaholic, intense, passionate, strong-minded.
You recently teamed up with Maggie Szabo for ‘One Last Time’, how have you found the response to the track so far?
This track is a really cool song that brings back some flavours of the 80s dance music with pop but all in a very modern context. I love it and the response has been great.
The video for the track sees you asking fans what they would do if they only had one last day on earth and bringing this to life, but what would you do?
That is a good question. I think I would spend most of it with my family and friends, especially my son, and we would have a crazy fun day together. And no… I would not rob a bank, eat 50 hamburgers, dance like crazy on the street or swim naked. Those are really my fans ideas! Just to make clear!
Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?
There are many great artists that I admire but if I have to choose someone I would say Adam Levine (as a singer) and Martin Garrix (as a producer).
Let’s talk about Brazil and their EDM scene, who are you loving within it right now?
The EDM scene in Brazil has lost a lot of power in the past couple of years, Unfortunately, a lot of good talent ended up quitting or change their style to survive, but there are some really cool guys making amazing stuff there. I could nominate Lothief, The Otherz, Rrotik and Diskover as good new stuff for you to hear!
Your music career has been an interesting one, seeing you try out a variety of genres across your time in the industry but what has been a career highlight for you?
My highlight was for sure being the first Brazilian to ever play on Tomorrowland’s Main Stage in Belgium. This is something historical that will be there forever. Aside from that, I would say that the release of my songs Strike it Up, Stay, Our Way and Who We Are. Those are amazing songs that somehow shifted my career in a certain way or represented something very dear to me.
What’s been your favourite track you’ve worked on and why?
I love Who We Are because I was inspired by my memories of my mother that passed away when I was still very young. It is a special song for me and will always be.
Which track do you wish you’d worked on/been a part of?
Welcome to the Jungle !!! haha… really.
Who are your musical influences?
I get a lot of inspiration from rock bands such as Guns n Roses, Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy etc. In the EDM world, I could name Martin Garrix, Calvin Harris, Skrillex and many others
What’s on the cards for the rest of 2019?
A lot of new releases mixing Club and Pop… stay tuned because there are some really really crazy things in the pipeline… from EDM to Country navigating through Brazilian funk… I’m all over!
