We recently caught up with singer/songwriter Harlea to have a chat about her hit single Beautiful Mess and her upcoming show with BBC Introducing.
Harlea is back in London, she’s flown back from where she resides in LA to get ready for her upcoming show with BBC Introducing on the 6th December at the Lexington in London. It’s a bit of a special gig for her “It was one of the first places I ever did a gig” she tells us. “So coming back and performing again is very special to me and I am very excited for it.
Her latest single Beautiful Mess, which is her third single is her most successful to date and has been getting lots of airplay and charting extremely well on amazing radio charts. “It’s more upbeat, a little catchier and it’s a feel-good track and slightly powerful. It gets inside people and makes them want to keep listening.”
The video for Beautiful Mess was shot at Bombay Beach in California. “When I was having a think about what I wanted to do for the video I knew I wanted to make something that connected to the song but wasn’t overly obvious if that makes sense?”
“Over time I sort have had like a vision come to me and it was these words being lit up by fire and being burnt and these beautiful messages spray painted around. I realised when I was having that vision that I was thinking of Robert Montgomery and Greta Bellamacina’s art. I’ve known them for a while and I sent them a message. I am so happy they agreed to collaborate. I feel like the whole thing just worked together.”
“I’ve had lots of support from BBC Introducing so it’s really exciting to be able to bring it [Beautiful Mess] to the stage and do a show.”
The set is about 5/6 songs, it’s a bit different from previous shows I have done as I usually play with a full band but I’ll be playing with just my guitarist so it’s a bit more stripped back and not as big. I think it will show off the songs in a different light. Kind of a fresh take on it all. I hope everyone enjoys it. I really excited to do it.”
Talk turns the future and what’s next. “I’m still figuring that out. At some point, I’d like to get another track out, do another video. I’d like to try and get an EP, maybe an album….. Haven’t decided which one, in the new year. Definitely, want to try and get more shows under my belt. You know just keep moving forward and doing what I’m doing and hope that people like it.”
