Justin Sanchez has dropped his new single “Mystery Man”. The song, though not the first from the artist, is an apt introduction to his art. Narrating the hardships he has been going through, Sanchez uses music to manifest his dreams. His song is both a beginning as well as an end of his pursuit.
Justin prides himself on the independence of his music. “Everything I create is done by myself. When I make a song on my own I am so much more connected to who I am.” By refusing to restrict himself within a single genre, Sanchez has been able to open possibilities of experimentation for himself and multiple interpretations for the listeners.
I feel so connected to so many different genres that I am everywhere. What I write is about whatever I feel. Everything is super random.
Justin is fearless in his music. That fearlessness pays off, creating insanely catchy, yet quirky tunes. His production styles are different, using eccentric samples and going places you wouldn’t expect, Justin crafts a sound like no other.
In an interview with CelebMix, the singer talked about his journey and his new song. Check it out below:
Please tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a really creative young artist from NYC and am focusing on making music right now. I produce/sing/rap and am in the process of making several new songs right now.
How did your journey as an artist begin?
I think I always knew I wanted to be an artist but it took time to find out which creative outlets I should really focus on. I wrote my first song a few years ago really spontaneously and ever since then I’ve been working on music a ton. I also started making clothing around the same time and am actually about to return to that as well. Overall though, music is and I think always will be my biggest passion. Right now I’m focusing on really growing my career as a musician.
We listened to your tracks on Spotify and it seemed that each of your track carries a commentary about how you lead life or go through a situation. What kind of message do you wish to convey to your listeners?
Ya to an extent my songs are about me, but they are open-ended and are more so intended for people to take away different meanings depending on the track. I feel a lot of my writing right now is about time and figuring out who I want to be. I want people to be able to relate to some of what I’m saying but also just try and visualize the songs as they are stories. I hope that as I grow as a songwriter and attract more listeners, my music will help people to better themselves while they enjoy it at the same time.
Continuing with our previous question, how would you want the audience to receive your songs? (in terms of music and concept)
I really hope that people will never really know what to expect with my music, besides expecting it to be really unique and great. I think there are some qualities that I’ll always have in my songs though. I feel like I have very distinct melodies that I make and an overall clean sound, even if I start to experiment it’ll sound organized so listeners can follow the songs and they will sound cohesive.
Please tell us about the creative process for your tracks? What part of the process do you enjoy the most?
It really changes often, but I think that being a little bit isolated helps me with being creative the most. The part I like most would probably be that first time I start figuring out lyrics and melodies right after I’ve started the beat.
Did you get a chance to communicate with your fans? How would you like to maintain an authentic conversation with your admirers?
A little bit – I want to try to respond as much as I can when a fan messages me something and in the future as I grow maybe to create some interactive ways to really be in touch with fans.
Congratulations for “Mystery Man”. Please tell our readers about the song.
Thank you! I feel this song just sounds super different, but it’s still really catchy and simple. It’s kind of like a hip-hop song with a bit of an experimental/trap feel to it. I really love the hook though that’s my favourite part.
“Mystery Man” is a poignant commentary on the lack of initiative on part of our generation. What inspired you to create this track?
I made the song really spontaneously, starting with the baseline but I think the lyrics and storytelling are inspired by me being part of the creative youth trying to find my way, despite the fact that a lot of people around me are sticking to a more simple/easier path.
2019 saw the release of “No Expiration” and “Mystery Man.” What can we expect for the rest of the year?
I have a lot of songs I’m just trying to finish mixing right now – 3 of them are essentially done though. Each are totally different from one another: reggae feels, r&b trap/jazzy feel and a hip pop type of song.
Do you have any other projects you would like to tell our readers about?
I feel like the reggae song I have coming could be the favourite, it’s really fun and has a cool production with nice melodies, so I’m excited to see what people think of that.
