Recently, we had the absolute pleasure to get to interview the gorgeous Kim Lee. Kim Lee is a model, DJ, and producer from Los Angeles who is one half of the duo KIMKAT, along with Katrina Nova. The duo has worked with the music industry’s elite such as Kanye West, Diplo, Martin Garrix, Skrillex, and Diddy.
Kim Lee has even appeared in many music video’s for artists like LMFAO, Kanye West, Far East Movement, Steve Aoki, Flo Rida, Nicki Minaj, Jason Derulo, Usher, John Legend, and many more!
Kim has also had a very successful modeling career as she has appeared on the covers publications such as Maxim, FHM, and Esquire. She has had lots of success throughout Asia and Europe, especially Singapore, where she was named the #1 FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in 2011. Her Singaporean success doesn’t stop there as her collaboration with Singaporean YouTube star, Jian Hao Tan, reached over 2 million views in just a couple days and even hit the #1 trending spot in Singapore.
Kim has really done it all. From making music, to doing cover photo shoots, to appearing in music videos for the biggest names in music, there is no doubt she’s a rising star in the music and modeling industries. Keep reading to get to know Kim and all the amazing things she’s accomplished.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m Kim Lee. Born and raised in LA. I’m Vietnamese/ French.
When did you first become interested in modeling?
When I was seventeen, I used to go to the book store and look at magazines and wished I was on the covers and years later it all came true.
What was the turning point in your life where you knew you were meant to work in the music industry?
When I started touring and making money from it. It felt right and for the first time I felt confident about something.
Who has been the most influential person throughout your career? In what ways have they helped you?
My Parents. They are everything to me. They are so supportive and are always giving me advice and even told me to dress sexy at my shows! Which is awesome. They know what’s up!
Are you considering, or have tried, any other career outside of modeling and music?
Yes I love acting. In 2011, I was in the Hangover 2 as a dancer and that experience, just being on set, is so much fun.
What is your biggest goal when it comes to modeling? When it comes to music?
To release my own music. I have been focusing on that this year. I have many projects going on but this year is going to be good.
What is it like touring as a duo in KIMKAT?
It’s fun! We always have a good time. We love having a good time so it’s all good vibes.
What is your favorite song you have made and produced with your partner Katrina Nova?
Probably the Whyel collab we did with him.
What has been your favorite show/festival you’ve played at?
Ultra Korea! Hands down just great energy.
What has been your favorite place(s) you’ve traveled to (for music or modeling) and what made the trip(s) so special?
I love Asia. The culture and food is just amazing. I always have a good time when I’m there.
What was the hardest show you’ve ever played and how did you handle the stress?
It’s hard when you have a show the crowd doesn’t react, haha, but I actually love that because I would go on stage and bring a bottle of vodka and that just changes everything.
If you could go back in time, which music video that you’ve done, would you want to re-live?
I would say Kanye West- Love Lockdown. It wasn’t a typical video; I had to get body painted and do the tribal dance which was cool.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
Prince, his music his stage presence. He’s original.
What has been your favorite modeling job?
Hmm… I don’t remember but I do enjoy shooting editorial stuff.
Which of your magazine covers/modeling campaign has been your favorite?
All my FHM Covers.
Which magazine do you aspire to be on the cover for?
Probably GQ.
What are your biggest challenges you face when it comes to modeling?
It’s a lot of pressure of being in shape. Since I love food. I try to diet right when I know a shoot is coming up.
What is your fan base like?
My fans are some loyal, protective people. When there’s negative comments on my Instagram, my fans would say something to that person right away.
What do you like to do in your free time or do you have any other hobbies?
Relax or at least I try. I love spending time with my family and loved ones.
Where do you see yourself in the next two years?
Settled down and running few businesses.
