Rising American artist Matt U Johnson his bringing his music to the UK this month with the release of his brand new single ‘Get Up’. The new single features a well known rapper on the US EDM Scene; Treyy G and today the official lyric video for the track was released.
Here we speak exclusively to Matt U Johnson about his new release, musical inspirations, touring plans and much, much more;
Growing up who inspired your love of music?
My influence and love for music came at a very young age in my hometown of NYC. From my father and cousins who took me around to all the notable concerts such as Steel Pulse , Morgans heritage and more .But as I got more into the business working with such people and opening up for artist like Pop star Iyaz, Mann and people in the U.K. Who I’ve studied under Like Celebrity Vocal coach Joshua Alamu, and my Broski from Ysbg Records Flint Bedrock.
Can you remember the moment you knew music was the career for you?
The moment I knew music was for me was when people showed admiration for my skill in my hometown. And I always felt the need to be doing something musical and vocal as young 10 year old boy. That’s when I knew music was my course of direction.
Your new single features Treyy G what was it like working with him?
It was very interesting working with Treyy G. He is a very talented producer and DJ who has had success in the business at a very young age. Inspiring to say the least. Being signed to ultra records at 19 and now to Sony is very motivating.
How do you feel your styles combine to create the track’s sound?
I feel our styles combine perfectly we combined the styles of EDM, Pop, and Dancehall to make a very distinct club and radio sound . An international cross over record I feel . Its catchy and perfect for the times now.
What can fans expect from the single?
I feel fans and supporters as I like to call them can expect a great club record that they can dance and bump in their cars worldwide!
You’re coming to the UK soon, will you be playing any live shows while in the country?
Yes I will be doing live shows in York , London and other city’s in the U.K. to be announced .
Do you have any plans to release an album soon?
Actually it’s funny that you ask I will be working on my new EP “Revival” while in the U.K. , stay tuned for that .
What are you overall career goals?
My overall career goals are to become a household name and to build my brand to the point to where I’m winning Grammys in the near future that’s my goal and to be happy doing what I love the most music.
