Sunset City is a Gold Coast break-out trio that consists of members Parker Rose (vocals), Matt Scully (guitar), Rob Johnson (bass guitar) and Brady Parsons (drums). The Australian group has most recently released their latest single “Forget It All” featuring Samantha Jade on Central Station Records and have plans to release even more music this year. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Sunset City opened up about songwriting, dream collaborations, and goals for 2019.
How did Sunset City form?
Parker: I met Matt in 2015 through a friend and his roommate was Rob, so we all kinda met up and had a jam and that was pretty much it. Super organic, but It took us quite a while to find our [own] sound though!
What can you tell us about the new single “Forget It All” featuring Samantha Jade?
It’s probably the first really positive song we’ve done to be honest. Sam’s vocals took it to another level! We’re really happy with it.
Is there something that makes this song particularly stand out to you and different from other singles?
Yeah. Definitely the fact that it’s a reasonably happy song, also the bpm. It’s a lot faster than most [of the] stuff we’ve done before.
As a trio, when you’re not recording music, what do you all spend your free time doing?
Parker: Exercising and eating are my faves, and reading my books.
Rob: Surfing and photography! I love going to the animal sanctuary and Netflix.
Scully: Getting into nature, photography, [and] traveling.
Do you usually write all of the songs yourselves, like “Forget It All,” and how is it to work on the songwriting process?
Parker: Yeah, we all write and Rob and I are producers. We worked with Msquared in Melbourne on this single though. Those guys are next level!
What are your dream collaborations as a group?
Demi Lovato would be cool! She’s got an amazing voice and a really cool vibe about her.
If it’s a co production, we’d probably say Mark Ronson.
As a band, what are your goals for this year?
[To] put out as much new content as possible! We should have our EP out later this year.
What can fans look forward to in the near or distant future?
Music Videos! They’re so much fun to make. They always get us excited again for the songs too; especially as there can be a lot of time between when the song is finished and when it’s actually released.
