The Clairvoyants, Thommy Ten and Amelie van Tass, will set off on tour in the spring of 2020. Designated ‘The Clairvoyants Experience,” the interactive live show encompasses the whole of North America.
During performances, the audience will not simply watch, they will participate throughout the show, experiencing the magic of their minds and hands.
“This is not just a show,” Thommy Ten explains, “This is an experience that people will talk about for a long time!”
“Every night will be unique and different,” Amelie van Tass says. “We will break the barrier between the stage and the audience, making those in attendance a major part of the whole experience.”
Now engaged to wed, the couple met in 2011, and began developing their “second sight” act. The next year they toured Europe. Before long, they found themselves part of ‘The Illusionarium,” followed by headlining the world’s largest magic show, ‘The Illusionists.”
In 2016, The Clairvoyants competed on America’s Got Talent, involving more than 100,000 challengers. In the end, The Clairvoyants took second place. They then appeared with AGT champion, Grace Vanderwaal, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Since then, The Clairvoyants have performed at the Sydney Opera House and the Palace Theater in NYC, along with two exclusive performances on America’s Got Talent: The Champions, as well as The Ellen Show and NBC’s California Live.
CelebMix interviewed The Clairvoyants to find out more about their upcoming show – ‘The Clairvoyants Experience.’
What three things can’t you live without?
Mr. Koni Hundini, pizza, and each other.
How did you two get together? What’s the backstory there?
T: Both of us worked for a TV show in Austria. Amélie worked there as a dancer and I was a magician. We realized soon that we really liked each other and that we have a lot of things in common. I can remember the very first time I saw her in front of the studio. I was standing on the street, huddled up against the cold, damp air, when she appeared, walking slowly out of the mist as though she were just now coming into our dimension from somewhere beyond.
A: I love hearing Thommy tell this story. I did not see the mist around me, which I guess is how that works. The mist around you is too close to see. You only ever see the mist around other people. I really liked Thommy’s presence and somehow I knew that I found the missing piece. Immediately we figured out that we want to create something new on stage and that we want to share it with the world. Since then we‘ve been working and living together 24/7 and created a unique show.
T: We wanted to show audiences what happens if two people are really connected. We began working on our show, 7 years ago, as fully equal partners. Our first important decision was that we wanted a show that creates a better connection to the audience. To do that, we had to focus more on our connection with each other. This is the connection we show to our audiences—the experience we strive to give them. To show how magical a connection can be.
You’re about to go on tour with ‘The Clairvoyants Experience.’ What inspired the new show?
T: A: We want to break the invisible wall between the audience and the stage. People are not only in the audience to watch the show; they are a part of it. That makes it much more personal and stays in their memories for a longer time. Let’s say it’s more an experience than just a show. The performance is not about showing tricks, it’s about showing how fascinating human beings are and what we are able to do if we really want to! To make this show happen we take the human being itself and everyday life events as an inspiration. There are so many phenomena out there people can relate to.
Throughout the show, we will spend a lot of time in the audience interacting with them. They will experience the magic in their own hands and minds. That’s also the fun part of the show because you never know how the audience members will react. We experience really great moments with our audience. We had people doing a handstand on stage because they liked it so much. Once we also had a couple on stage and the man proposed to his girlfriend because it was the most magical thing they have ever experienced!
A: And she said Yes! All our inspiration comes from our connection or from our audiences!
What makes the new show special?
T: The audience will not only see some of our favorite acts from AGT (America’s Got Talent), but also many brand new pieces. We are going to involve the full audience in our performance. Right at the top of the show we will make an experiment where we try to read all the minds of the audience at the same time!
A: We’re especially looking forward to present not only the act that we won the World Championships of Magic with but also brand new pieces, for example with our dog Mr. Koni Hundini or Thommy who learned the finest art of Manipulation for our new show.
How will your dog, Mr. Koni Hundini be part of the show?
T: Koni is probably going to be the biggest star of the show! He loves being on stage and getting attention. He will show that he is also able to read the minds of our audience and not only that, we will bring a very special friend to the show. You will be surprised!
You gained international prominence on AGT. If you had it to do all over again, would you do anything differently?
A: America’s Got Talent was an incredible experience for us. It was an exciting, a challenging and wonderful time.
T: It was so great, to experience all the support from our fans in the US. We got fan mail from all over the world and people are always recognizing us on the streets. We are so thankful for all of that! Now we have the chance to say thank you to our fans and to tour through the United States to show people our live show.
A: So I think we did everything right and would do it again the same way!
Last year, you appeared twice on AGT: The Champions. Was the experience like déjà vu or brand new and exciting?
T: Doing AGT is always different, since we are performing a new act every time.
A: For example last year on the Champions it was the biggest prediction we’ve ever done, because it was spray painted in huge letters on the rooftop of the Pasadena Auditorium before the show was taped. The prediction was so big that everyone flying over Los Angeles was able to see it from the airplane. The special fact is that this was already our 12th performance on America’s Got Talent! It always feels like coming home and we are very happy to be part of the AGT family.
Any plans to play Las Vegas in the future?
A: We always love performing in Vegas. Just last Christmas we performed with our show ‘The Clairvoyants Christmas’ at the Paris Hotel right on the strip.
T: For now we prefer touring around the world, instead of performing in Vegas for a longer time. But we’ll see – you never know what the future will bring.
A: That’s what he says …
