Tina Says has experimented with her sound for a little while now, but the release of her new single “Elevate” marks a new era for her sound. With sultry vocals and an addictive baseline, this track is one that listeners can dance to and enjoy in a variety of settings to accompany their memories. It shows her growth as a producer and where her music is currently heading in a way that not only captivates the attention of those who hear it but excites them for what’s in store. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Tina Says opens up about “Elevate,” dream collaborations and more.
Who were your musical influences growing up?
My parents are so foreign that I only listened to either or Greek or German music, but when I was 11 my brother gave me all his trance CDs, like Nick Skitz. So I think my taste for electronic music came quite early on. My first 2 albums I purchased though was Jenny from the Block – JLO and Black Eyed Peas. Epic albums!
What can you tell us about your upcoming release “Elevate” and its overall message?
“Elevate” was predominantly written for clubs. I wanted that hard-hitting style bass drop but with 90s/00s vocals and synth stabs! The message in this release is more to do with how I have progressed as a producer and what to expect from me next!
How is this new single different from what you have released in the past?
It’s definitely more of a club heater! My past tracks were what I call my “magic” tracks where I have no formula and put random sounds together. [For] this one, I wanted to write something where other DJs will want to play out with a bit more club structure. As I said, I think it really shows my progression as a music producer, but it still holds those magic elements.
How do you think the support from triple j and other community stations have helped you reach a larger audience?
I believe having your tracks play on any station will gain a larger audience. Purely because when people are listening without judgement of who it is, especially when they’re in the car, or doing normal daily tasks – they listen with a more open mind!
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Taleena! We have started working together and we work well together. If I had a choice, probably Dom Dolla or international artists Solardo, Sonny Fedora, Sofi Tukker… that [would] be the dream!
What can fans look forward to either soon or in the new year?
Many more releases, remixes and shows! This year has been a focus on building my team and direction and now we have begun on our new path which is very exciting! I also have my own video mix series called Body Control, where I play intimate shows around Perth and record the set for Youtube! The next one will be Dec 5th at our first club venue and available to the public! Tickets are selling well so far…which was such a good surprise.
