Tryon are a pop duo made up of brothers Stephen and Justin Kirk, 25 and 24 respectively, who were born in Ohio and are now based in Nashville. The boys’ are currently building up a large fanbase and social media following.
Their debut single ‘Somebody To Love Me’ reached the top 40 and is gaining a lot of publicity.
Here they talk exclusively to Celeb Mix about the song, what they hope to achieve in the next few years, their celebrity crushes, plus much, much more.
Growing up did you always know you wanted to be singers?
We always knew we wanted to be professional entertainers. The first instruments we learned to play were different than what we play on stage now. Justin first learned to play the guitar and I [Stephen] started on drums. Now I play guitar and Justin plays bass.
What are your earliest memories of music?
Growing up watching our family sing in church is probably the earliest memory. That’s where we learned how to sing in harmony, Our mom took it pretty serious back in the day!
When did you decide to form Tryon?
We started our band on Christmas day when we were 11 and 12 years old. That was the day we got our first instruments!
Who inspired you to get into music?
Our mom and dad were very influential to us and they really were the first to get us into music.
Growing up, who were your favourite singers?
We both loved MJ [Michael Jackson], Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, and Frank Sinatra.
You are based in Nashville yet you sing pop rather than country, how have people reacted to that?
We have always wanted to make music that was true to us, and pop music is the truest we could be. People in Nashville really have reacted well to our sound. It’s so humbling.
Your single ‘Somebody To Love Me’, is doing really well at the moment, how do you feel about the response it has had?
It is seriously a DREAM COME TRUE! To see people making videos and singing our song at shows. There is nothing like it!
What has been the most exciting thing to happen to you since the release of your single? Going Top 40 was so exciting. That and meeting all the fans!
What is the best thing about performing live?
The adrenaline rush is something you can only really get on stage, that feeling and meeting new people are easily the best parts of playing live.
How old were you when you first performed live?
14 and 15!
If you could collaborate with any artist who would you choose?
Taylor Swift is def on the top of our list.
What would be your dream venue to perform at?
MSG!!!!! [Madison Square Garden].
Who are your celebrity crushes?
Stephen- Tori Kelly, J-LO and Rihanna. Justin- Paula Patton.
Apart from music what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
WE LOVE SPORTS! Football is probably our favourite, but we’re into almost anything sports related.
What would you like to achieve in the next ten years?
Over the next ten years we’d love to win a Grammy, sell out MSG and tour the whole world multiple times!
