Fast rising music producer Alex Mattson’s career has had some incredible moments so far but he first picked up serious attention, being the first Finnish solo artist to sign a record deal with the Ultra Music label. And his first label release ‘UFO’ has gained over 10 million Spotify streams so far and has been certified platinum in Finland.
And now he is back with new single ‘Discovery’, the new club track serves as follow up to previous release ‘Complicated Love’.
Here we speak exclusively Alex Mattson to speak new release, future plans, and much, much more:
Growing up who inspired your love of music?
I’ve had many people who have inspired me. But to pick a few, I’d say Swedish House Mafia, Zedd and Skrillex have always been my biggest inspirations. Of course there is a few bands as well that I’ve been listening to since I was kid.
When did you first get into musical production?
I was probably 13 or 14 when i got into producing. I use to play in bands before that so I wanted to create something just by myself. That’s kinda how I got into it. I started to just play around with some sounds and with a lot of practice it eventually turned out to be something pretty dope.
Who are your musical heroes?
I’d say Swedish House Mafia, Zedd and Skrillex for this one as well, haha!
Who are you hoping to work with in the future?
I just hope i get to work with many talented people around the world. I’d love to make a song with Drake some day, haha!
What is the inspiration behind your new release ‘Discovery’?
I’ve been producing a lot of pop twisted songs, so this time i wanted to create something that gives me the same feeling all those EDM songs did when I started to produce.
How would you describe your music to new listeners?
I’d say my music is fresh mix between urban, pop and electronic dance music. I always try to have catchy vocal hooks in my songs, so maybe you could say it’s catchy as well.
Do you have any touring plans lined up?
Yea of course! I actually just finished my spring tour. We did 24 shows in few months and 9 of those were big arena shows, what an experience, had so much fun! Now i’m starting my summer tour. Playing some festival shows in Northern Europe and few club shows as well. More to announce!
2017 was a big year for you, what are you hoping to achieve in 2018?
I hope this year I will get many new listeners from around the world. And of course the goal is to release as many great songs as possible :)
What are your long term career goals?
My long term goal is to make my career last long and of course achieve a lot with it. My dream is to have a Billboard number 1 some day, hahah! :)
