Lula Miranda is an exciting talent who recently teamed up with Refinery29 to share the visual for brand new single ‘Cherry Kiss’. The clip depicts not only strong female relationships but a witchy ritual you have to see for yourself.
Here we speak exclusively to Lula Miranda to discuss ‘Cherry Kiss’, and future music plans:
Can you tell us a little about the inspiration behind your new single ‘Cherry Kiss’?
“Cherry Kiss” talks about a love story. I guess I mixed a real event that was occurring in my life with a bit of fantasy. I wrote the song at a moment where my relationship wasn’t at its best and I was feeling sad. The song goes back and forth in the past and present. This is why the song is nostalgic, but at the same time it has a powerful and positive message when talking about the strong connection the “couple” has had and how she decided wanting to go back to that time and place again.
What was the writing process like for this track?
One of the things I most enjoy about my career is writing my songs. Thankfully, “Cherry Kiss” came out in less than an hour. I wrote and recorded the demo of the song one day and started working with one of my producers right away. I traveled to London for the recording of the album because I was working with Christian Wright, a producer who works at Abbey Road Studios. We recorded many songs at Abbey Road, it was such an incredible experience and I will be forever grateful for having had the chance to do that.
What are you hoping fans take from the song?
I hope listeners somehow feel identified with the song. Music to me is all about emotions so I can only wish that “Cherry Kiss” makes them feel something or makes them travel somewhere in their imagination.
Do you have a favourite lyric from ‘Cherry Kiss’?
One of my favorite parts in the lyrics might be: “Riding down for miles we can’t resist”. I love that phrase in every context. When you enjoy something so much in life and you choose that path with no regrets and you just enjoy it so much. To me that is what freedom is all about.
The official video has amassed over 100k views, how excited are you by the response to clip?
My team and I have worked so hard to get the video to come out the way we planned and it is very satisfying to have 100k viewers already.
What was the filming day like on the set of ‘Cherry Kiss’ video?
The filming took us around 21 hours. I slept less than 4 hours the day before and woke up at 1am with my makeup artist at my house while I was having my earliest breakfast ever. I was focused the whole day in getting the right shots. My girls and I had so much fun, we never even felt tired. It is very pleasant to work with such professional and talented people.
How important do you feel a video is to the success of a single?
Nowadays image is so important and films are such a good way to show the song in another way or even tell two stories at once. I strongly think that due to platforms such as YouTube, Apple Music, and even Spotify, in the near future music will always be released with image. This is why I give importance to the quality of my videos and make sure to share a story or a message in it so as to be interpreted by the audience in many different ways.
We’re now at the start of 2019, can we expect an album and tour from you this year?
In mid-February I will be releasing my second single which is in both Spanish and English. The rest of my songs will be released every 2 months and we are planning for the entire album release in October 2019. For sure I’ll be hitting the road once the album is out! I’m so excited for that time to come!
