Peyton Wich is best known for his stint on Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things‘ as bully, Troy. He will next be seen in 20th Century Fox’s ‘The Darkest Minds‘, opposite Amandla Stenberg and Harris Dickinson, then will be costarring in Columbia Pictures’ ‘Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween’, out October 10th, alongside Jack Black and Odeya Rush.
We was so gratefully given the opportunity to sit down with Peyton to talk about his upcoming movie ‘The Darkest Minds’ and other projects such as ‘Stranger Things‘.
Hi Peyton! Welcome to CelebMix, we are so excited and honoured to have you on the site! Would you like to introduce yourself to our lovely readers?
Hey everyone, I’m Peyton Wich. I started my acting training at age nine and booked my first role at age eleven. I have been fortunate to work on some really small projects where I could develop my acting skills in a low-pressure situation, which led to me booking bigger projects like Darkest Minds, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, and Stranger Things.
You previously starred in ‘Stranger Things’ as Troy, the bully. How did you get in to the mindset and was it difficult to keep with whilst working with such a fun cast?
It was difficult, staying in that mindset. It was hard being so cruel to those kids, I love them. They were so funny and just all-around great people. As soon as we cut, we were being silly and having fun, but when it was time to do a scene, I really had to get in that mode of being pretty ruthless. Fortunately, everyone wanted to make the scenes as good as they could possibly be, so we all pushed each other to not hold anything back, It was a great experience going through that with other kids my age.
What was your most fun behind-the-scenes experience whilst working on ‘Stranger Things’?
One of the last days on set, we were at the sound stages, so it was all indoors, lots of green screen. Mike’s basement was built in the stages, so we were hanging out in there. We starting playing hide-n-seek in the basement, which lead to some really fun and memorable moments. There wasn’t a day that I was on set that we didn’t have fun in between takes or in between scenes. There was never a dull moment!
You’re starring in the upcoming movie ‘The Darkest Minds’. Could you give us a brief description on what the movie is about?
The Darkest Minds is an action/adventure thriller movie about a group of kids who have these really interesting and exciting powers and their struggles of the new world they’ve been forced in to.
What was it like to work alongside two big actresses such as Amandla Stenberg and Mandy Moore?
I’ve actually never met Mandy Moore, as I had no scenes with her, but I did meet Amandla. She’s really great, such a kind person, as is the rest of the cast. Of course, it is always exciting when you get to share the screen with other actors that are so accomplished. I have been really fortunate to work with some really great actors who also happened to be really good people to be around.
Who or what inspired you to become an actor?
I was nine years old at the time. I had tried so many different extracurricular activities such as; baseball, soccer, even karate. I never really stuck to anything. I always quit, but acting was different. I had always liked movies and my parents really wanting me to find an activity that I enjoyed and that I would stick with. I told them I wanted to be an actor out of the blue. At first, I suppose I was just something else for me to do, but I quickly fell in love with it. I’ve been at it ever since. It is truly the only thing I want to do.
What is one TV genre that you haven’t done yet, but would love to do in the future?
A genre that I haven’t done but would love to would have to be either horror or superhero, which is kind of actor, but I like to think that it is it’s own genre. I like opportunities that give me a chance to show a different style of acting that I haven’t been able to show previously.
Who is your dream TV role?
I would absolutely love to play Spider-Man. It’s my dream role, but if there is a chance, I am sure it’s a while off.
We would absolutely love to see you as Spider-Man!
Who is the one actor/actress you would love to work with in the future?
I’d be so unbelievably happy to work with either Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Hart or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it would honestly be so amazing. Those are the three that pop immediately in to my head, but the more I think about it, the list is actually very long. There are so many amazing actors that would be great to with with.
Those are some great choices! When you’re not acting, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m really just a normal kid in my spare time. I do schoolwork, hang out with friends, play video games, etc. It’s nice to have a break formatting everyone in a while, to be a kid. That being said, if there too much time between projects, I tend to get antsy to go back to work.
So, why should everybody watch ‘The Darkest Minds’? Sell it to us!
The Darkest Minds is going to be such a fun experience. There’s acting, visually stunning scenes, maybe even some romance. I think everyone is going to adore it! Plus, there are some really great actors! Lol.
We can’t wait to watch it! Lastly, do you have any upcoming and exciting projects you can tell us about?
I am extremely excited to be a part of the next Goosebumps film! The official title is Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween. I play Tommy Madigan and had a great time with the cast. Again, I was fortunate to work with other kids my age. The first teaser trailer was just released on July 11, 2018, so go check it out!
