Sebastian Olzanski is a singer and songwriter from Argentina. He started singing at a young age and knew he wanted to make music his career. Since beginning his music career, he has released his single “Looking For Love” back in 2015, has been on tour with Shawn Mendes for the MAGCON tour as well as being nominated for “Vine Musician” at the Shorty awards along side Shawn Mendes. Currently, Olzanski is on tour opening for Wesley Stromberg on The Way Up Tour, CelebMix had the chance to talk with Olzanski before his set in Boston, MA.
How did you get into music?
I’ve always loved to sing since I was a little kid. I was born in Argentina and then I moved to Canada when I was 12, which opened up a lot of doors to new people. I started using social media when I was 15, I was doing live streams on YouNow, a livestream app, just to build my audience and then it just slowly grew. I did the MAGCON tour in 2014 with Shawn Mendes, which was very cool, so that helped me a lot to grow. Ever since then, I have created my own audience and we kind of grew together and it’s just been helping me to keep growing with my music and everything that I do.
You just released your song “For You,” what does that song mean to you?
That song means a lot to me. I really really like that song. It’s basically a song about this girl who can’t decide between a few guys and I’m one of them. I sing a little bit about all the things that I’ve done for her and how unfair it is for her to treat me that way. The song is basically asking “am I going to be the one or not? You have decided cause I’m tired of waiting.” It’s a very fun song, I’m happy how it turned out and I think it’s kind of slowly leading me into the sound that I want to create for the future.
What’s your favorite song to perform live?
I love singing “Nobody But Us,” that’s my original from 2016, that’s the style of music that I’m very in love with and I think that’s the style that I want to keep working towards. I also love singing my Spanish song “Seguiré Aquí,” I love that song, I just love the piano and the instrumental in that and the words mean a lot to me in that song.
Being from Argentina, does Argentina inspire your music a lot?
There’s a lot of sweetness from my voice that I try to portray. I try to portray emotion through my voice, which is something that in Argentina that everybody has that whenever they talk. So, that’s why I try to portray that warmth through my music. There’s definitely some small styles, Argentina styles, that I kind of unconsciously put into my music.
Who are some of your musical inspirations?
In terms of career, Justin Bieber inspired me a lot, he built his empire from a YouTube video. That was definitely a thing for me, I got really motivated to grow through my social media with it, to create some videos and grow, he really motivated me. In terms of sound and my music right now, I would say Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, I love Shawn Mendes, especially his new album, my style is kind of in that direction that he’s going towards as well. Those three guys right there are incredible people that I really admire.
What’s the most exciting thing about the tour for you?
Getting to see everybody that supports me. I am so used to seeing everybody through a screen that it’s just kind of amazing, just being able to see fans in person. Also, I absolutely love to perform live and get to sing to others and portray different messages for other people, that really makes me happy. There’s also a lot of traveling, which is something I absolutely love. I love to visit new places. Touring is just fun, it’s amazing.
