RnB powerhouse IYVES will make her grand return to the music industry on April 19th with the release of her brand new single ‘Gold’. The new release ushers in her new era after a few months away from the limelight of the industry.
Here we talk exclusively to IYVES to discuss her forthcoming release, writing process, hiatus and more:
We last caught up with you back in July of last year, what have you been up to since?
It’s been a very busy year of writing and creating. I have been writing songs that have been more conceptual and concrete. I have been taking time to really dig into the message and story I want to share. I am so excited to share this evolution and new era of my music!
You have a new single ‘Gold’ being released on April 19th, what kind of vibe can fans expect from the song?
The song is BIG and cinematic! It’s one of my favorite songs I have written yet. I pulled from lots of influences when creating this song. For example, I really admire the production of artist projects like NAO and LP. I love how they were able to keep the verses minimal yet, present and captivating and then when the chorus hits, it’s strong and powerful. That is really the direction I tried to take when writing this piece.
What has been the main inspiration behind the track?
The inspiration of the track is about the overwhelming joy and mystic of finding someone that is better than you could have ever imagined. It’s that moment when you recognize how special and rare this is to find.
Can you tell us a little about the writing process for this song?
I co-wrote this song with my good friend Mori Einsidler alongside producer Lucas Hass. Mori and I were discussing the beginning of a new relationship and how it can be frightening when it feels too good to be true. It’s sort of bitter sweet because all you want to do is be fully in it, yet, you hold back because you’re not totally convinced it’s that good. But, come the pre- chorus/chorus I state, that it is what I feel and more. This song was all written and recorded in Luke’s bedroom, and was actually the first song all three of us created together!
How does it feel to be back after a few months’ hiatus?
To you guys it might seem as though I’ve been on a hiatus but, I’ve actually been working and writing so so much! I always need a bit of time in between releases to live and experience life so that I have inspiration to write about it.
Do you have any plans to release an LP this year?
I have plans to release a bunch of new songs in the coming months — I definitely foresee an LP in the near future.
What are your major goals for this year?
My major goals and hopes for this year are to release this new music I have been working on. I plan to be performing much more in the New York/ Brooklyn region and hope to be seeing a lot more touring in the near future. I want to be able to meet and share my music with all people who have stood by my project and introduce myself to all the people who have yet to hear me.
