In fact, the relatability of the lyrics and themes presented in Kate’s music continue to attract the masses as time goes on. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, the “Dear Denny” singer opens up about touring, upcoming music and more.
You just finished opening up for Madison Beer in Europe. What was that experience like?
It was like the most magical experience of my life. The response was so amazing. People just screamed the songs at the top of their lungs and the fans were incredible. It couldn’t have been a better first tour. Madison was so incredible and supportive and sweet. I adore her. Everything about it was amazing.
What song did you enjoy performing most on stage?
I have to say “10 Things I Hate About You” because performing that was so many mixed emotions. The song was exploding every day. It was just climbing the charts. You could see the crowds get louder and like more cell phones go up [at each show]. To sing that song, it was like a combination of all of my dreams coming true. Seeing “10 things” just get louder and louder every night was a surreal experience. I didn’t even have to sing it. I could just hand the microphone to the crowd and the fans would sing every word.
What was your reaction to seeing “10 Things I Hate About You” completely blow up on social media and streaming platforms?
The response was absolutely insane. People could just relate to it and wanted to scream it. I got so many messages being like, ‘Oh my God .This song is free therapy. Thank you for writing it.’ It’s unfortunate that people feel so many negative things about an ex or whoever it may be in their lives, but I’m happy [that] it can make people not feel so alone. The amount of people who could relate to the 10 things is scary. I’m happy that it’s helping people in this therapeutical way. That’s why I wrote it!
You’re going on tour with Chase Atlantic this summer and seem to never take a break! How excited are you and how do you balance such a busy schedule?
I’m so excited. I just get bored really easily, so I don’t even really like taking a day off. I’m living my dream right now. I genuinely love what I do so much, so it doesn’t feel like it’s work. It’s fun for me! I get to do what I love and I’m so grateful for that.
Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?
The list is endless. There are so many artists I would die to collaborate with, but it would be so sick to write with Fletcher or Tate McRae. Conan gray would [also] be insane. The list goes on. I love to collaborate, so [I’m] hoping to get a cool collaboration in ASAP. We have some fun ideas in the works!
Are fans going to have to wait for new music?
Oh no! I’m definitely going to be dropping lots of music, so they can expect a ton of it. It’s going to be in the same world as “10 Things I Hate About You,” so if they love 10 things, they’ll love what’s to come. When I want to drop a song, I drop it. I’m not about making the fans wait! I love feeding them new songs and continuing to put out things that I love.
