EXCLUSIVE: Morgan Evans Discusses ‘Day Drunk’ Video and UK Tour

Australian born, Nashville based country music star Morgan Evans last month shared the ingenious video for his worldwide smash-hit single ‘Day Drunk’, and earlier this week he kicked off his latest UK tour which will wrap September 6th in London before he closes out his British live slots with a performance at the Long Road Festival on the 7th.

Here we chat exclusively to the singer-songwriter about the music video and UK audiences:

Regarding the Day Drunk music video, what was it like filming the clip?

It was a beautiful day in Long Beach California. I love it out there and the crew we worked with were awesome, but that shoot was possibly the most creatively challenging thing I’ve ever done!

You had to learn the lyrics backward for the film, what was that like?

It was like learning another language! I would like to apologize to my wife [Kelsea Ballerini] and any of my neighbors who had to put up with me learning it around the house! Ha! “Gnars Dee-Ed” is Day Drunk backwards if you were wondering …

What made you want to shoot the video in reverse?

I’m always trying to push myself creatively. I have been wanting to try shooting a video in reverse for a while, the whole idea of it just fascinated me. The fun energy in “Day Drunk” seemed like the perfect opportunity to try something a little crazy!

How have you found the fan response so far?

It’s been great! This song had been a crowd favorite at shows since we released it last year, so to offer a new perspective on it with this video and have it received so well was really cool.

Along with sharing the video, you’re also touring the UK this week, how excited are you about the upcoming dates?

Soooo stoked! I love it over here. There are a lot of things about it that remind me of home, in Australia. The music fans are truly passionate, they’re exactly the kind of people I want to play music for.

What’s your favourite thing about performing for British fans?

The passion for the music. It reminds me a lot of Australia in that Country Music isn’t necessarily being played in these cities every week like it is in the US. So when it comes to town, people show up, and they really bring it!

What can concert goers expect from the tour?

We’re here for a good time! I’ll be playing songs from my “Things That We Drink To” album, telling stories, and playing some of the stuff I grew up on too … we played in Dublin [September 3rd] and I’ve never seen a crowd smile so wide!

You’re also performing at Long Road on Saturday, how excited are you about that set?

I’m stoked to be a part of the line-up, and even more stoked to see a proper British Country Music Festival in full flight!!!

How do you feel festival slots compare to a headline show?

For festival slots, you’ve got to take the “party” dial on your setlist and turn it up to 11! Ha!

What else can we expect from you over the next few months?

We have just blocked out time to get back in the studio in late September. New music. The next chapter!
