Since bursting onto the music scene back in 2009, British singer/songwriter Pixie Lott has successfully managed to forge a lasting, and meaningful connection with her ever growing army of loyal fans and followers!
With the release of her fourth studio album ‘Encino’ – OUT THIS WEEK – Pixie delves deeper than ever before, to produce some of the most personal music of her career thus far.
Made up of 13 emotionally charged tracks, including the singles “Somebody’s Daughter” and “Midnight Trash”, the coming-of-age record sees Pixie taking control of her career for the first time, co-writing each of the songs, and tackling topics such as romance, family, online bullying and nostalgia.
To celebrate the launch of the album, we thought we’d give CelebMix readers, along with some of Pixie’s biggest fans, the opportunity to ask her a cute little question or two…
Can you describe ‘Encino’ in THREE words?
– Matthew via CelebMix Facebook
Ooh, let me think!.. Okay, Matthew I’m going to say organic, raw and authentic.
What would you say is the best, or your most favourite lyric on the album?
– @angielizabethx on Instagram
I’ve actually spoken about this particular lyric quite a lot already, so sorry if I sound like I’m repeating myself (laughs). But the last lyric on the album goes “everything I ever needed was already there…” and it’s really special to me, because it sums up how I feel about the making of ‘Encino’.
‘Midnight Trash’ is my favourite song of yours! What inspired you write it?
– @hrkws on ‘X’
Aww yeah, I am so excited that you like it Harriet! So ‘Midnight Trash’ is all about breaking up with insomnia. I co-write it with Pete Zizzo at a time when I couldn’t sleep with anxiety, my chest was so tight. It sounds like it’s a break-up song but it’s actually positive. It’s one of my favourites from the album, and Bertie is actually playing on the track! He plays the shaker and is credited on the album for that, so I’m a very proud mama!
If you could take one from ‘Encino’ and turn it into a movie, which song would it be and why?
– @amarlott on ‘X’
Turn a song into a movie? I love that idea! Okay, I’m going to say ‘Coco’ because I know that it’s one of ,,, favourites, and also because I feel like it’s got a very dramatic, and cinematic feel to it. It’s filled with a lot of emotion, and drama, so I think we could play around a lot with the visuals and the imagery… and oh my goodness, can you imagine all of the fabulous fashion and looks we could put together? This is making me want to make a music video…
What was the most challenging song you wrote on ‘Encino’ and why?
– @debsincognito on ‘X’
Well, I’d say the most vulnerable song I wrote for this album was ‘Say So’. It’s about a time in my life when I was really struggling, and for whatever reason I never really spoke about it to anyone until I went into the studio with Dave Gibson and Jeeve Ducornet. I put it all out there, and kind of told them everything, and then we turned all of that angst and emotion into a song. It’s like nothing else I’ve written before, and I did find it hard to be so vulnerable, but it was really important to me to have that song included on the album because it’s a part of my story. I said early that I’d describe ‘Encino’ as being authentic, and to be authentic you have to be willing to share all aspects of yourself, good and bad. I couldn’t go out there and say to people “this album is a representation of the last five years of my life” and not talk about that period. Thankfully I’m out the other side, and things are good again now.
You said in a recent interview that the last lyric on the album was “everything I ever needed was already there…” What would you say was the major turning point in your life that helped you to realise this?
– @marcos1995c on ‘X’
I’d say mediation was something that really helped me to gain perspective on things, because it taught me how to strip everything back, and remember the essence of who I am. That then gave me the confidence to go out there, and make the kind of music I wanted to make, rather than continue to listen to those who had always encouraged me to play it safe and follow trends. When you’re aligned, and in touch with what you want, magic happens…
What kind of advice would ‘Encino’ Pixie give to ‘Turn It Up’ Pixie?
– @mcarvalhais_ on Instagram
Ooh that’s a cool question, thank you … . I think I would say trust your gut instinct, follow your own path and value your own opinion. Still live it up and have the best time, but try to remember what it is you want to do… and don’t want 10 years to make ‘Encino’ (laughs).
Pixie Lott – Turn It Up
How does it feel to be back on the scene, performing and promoting new music now you’re a Mum?
– @baz_gouldsburypt on Instagram
It’s amazing! I love how things have turned out, and the timing of the album’s release because it means I can bring Bertie along with me, and he can experience all of this fun stuff with me. I love what I do, and I feel really lucky that I’m still able to do it… I am really tired though, like I’m actually exhausted (laughs). But when all is said and done, he’s my number one priority, and I make everything else work around him.
What’s your Mum’s favourite song on ‘Encino’?
– @bevstacat123 on Instagram
Is that a question from my Mum? That’s hilarious. So my Mum’s favourite song is ‘Vintage’, which is a love song about my relationship with Ollie being very lived in, and how after all these years our love has that classic, vintage-y feel to it because we’ve been together for so long. I can’t wait to perform it live.
Do you have any plans to tour with this album? We can’t wait to see you perform these songs live!
– @JDBWright91 on ‘X’
YES! There will definitely be a tour at some point next year, 100%! Touring and playing live is my favourite thing to do. I’m really lucky and I’ve gotten to perform at loads of really amazing festivals and events the past few years, but I haven’t done my own tour is forever, so I can’t wait to get back out there and bring this album to life with all of the fans.
Are there any artists that you’re loving at the moment that you’d like to collaborate with?
– @saamcarr on ‘X’
I’m really into Chappell Roan at the moment, I think she’s great and I love a lot of her songs.
If you were putting together a playlist for somebody who was listening to your music for the first time, what five songs would you include?
– Benjamin via CelebMix Facebook
Ooh… that’s a good question! From the old stuff I would include ‘Cry Me Out’ and ‘All About Tonight’ because that was my biggest single! And then I’d put all of the new singles on there, so ‘Somebody’s Daughter’, ‘Midnight Trash’ and ‘Show You Love’.
If you could be in any girl band, what girl band would it be?
– Emily Stephens via CelebMix Facebook
It’s gotta be the Spice Girls!
If you were forming your own girl band, which other solo artists would you pick to be in your group?
– Edward Jones via CelebMix Facebook
Oh wow! Okay, let me think… so I would chose Mariah Carey, Stevie Nicks, Diana Ross, and then… it’s gotta be Whitney Houston.
TikTok or Instagram?
– Aaron Black via CelebMix Facebook
I’d probably say Instagram, although I am trying to up my TikTok game at the moment; I’m just not quite there yet (laughs).
The 90s, 00s, 10s, or 20s?
– Claire Hartley via CelebMix Facebook
Ooh… it’s gotta be the 90s! It was a fun decade to grow up in.
What’s your comfort TV show?
– Sally Walters via CelebMix Facebook
Aww, definitely Friends. It never fails to make me laugh. Someone told me the other that this year it celebrates it’s 30th anniversary – how mad is that?
What’s your dream concert venue that you’d love to play a show at one day?
– Harrison Clark on ‘X’
Madison Square Garden in New York, without a doubt! That would be my ultimate dream come true if I could one day play my own show there.
What three words would you use to describe this period of your life?
– Michael Fitzpatrick via CelebMix Facebook
Grounded, happy and FUN!
