Fast-rising Irish singer/songwriter KTG aka Katie Gallagher – is currently preparing to unleash her debut mini-album, ‘Searching For Magpies’, on the 26th of September this year via Beardfire Music. Her folk-tinged soaring vocals are reminiscent of the likes of Laura Marling and Wallis Bird and the LP is a heady combination of modern folk, pop and country-tinged sensibilities which come together to create a sound that is both playful and poignant.
Speaking about the forthcoming record, KTG says: “The album is based on the old wives’ tale for Magpies (one for sorrow, two for joy, etc.) each track relates to one of the lines in the rhyme. It was inspired by my fascination for magpies and how paranoid I get when I only see one magpie by itself.”
Her newest upcoming single ‘Strawberries’ feels as if it could have come straight out of KT Tunstall’s impressive back catalogue, as the folk-pop melodies mix with funk-infused guitars, creating something truly feel-good and addictive.
Talking about the new track, KTG says: “Strawberries is just a really fun track that makes you want to go out and take on the town! Where Don’t Tell My Mother was about the second chance, Strawberries is the beginning and it is a personal favourite! Who knew a strawberry flavored Kopperberg could have been such an inspiration?!”
